Description
This position is responsible for providing maintenance support to a fleet of vehicles and equipment. The Journeyman Mechan is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the company’s fleet of trucks, trailers, agricultural equipment, heavy equipment, and support vehicles. This position plays a critical role in ensuring equipment is safe, reliable, and available to support daily operations across all business units. Completion of repair projects must be in accordance with DOT standards and other internal company standards. The candidate must be able to diagnose and perform full range of repairs, installations, routine maintenance, and modifications to equipment typically used to haul grain, feed, and petroleum; agronomy application equipment; and merchandise. The Journeyman Mechanic works independently on complex repairs, while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient shop environment.

Job Summary and Primary Duties:
- Diagnoses vehicles and equipment malfunctions for the purpose of determining needed repairs and/or replacements
- Fabricates parts for the purpose of providing items necessary for repairs
- Performs routine vehicle maintenance programs (e.g. Oil change, tire rotations, brake check, etc.) according to established schedules
- Repairs vehicle system and components (e.g. diesel, gasoline engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, etc.) for the purpose of operating vehicles in safe operating conditions
- Completes all appropriate papers on maintenance and repairs as well as be able to maintain records according to company service department standards, including but not limited to work orders and inspection forms
- Maintain and repair agricultural equipment, application equipment, trailers, and support vehicles
- Perform DOT inspections and ensure equipment complies with federal, state, and company regulations
- Test equipment after repairs to verify proper operation
- Accurately document repairs, labor hours, parts used, and preventative maintenance activities
- Communicates repair priorities and equipment status with supervisors and operations personnel
- Assist with emergency breakdowns
- Properly use and maintain shop equipment and specialized tools
- Participate in safety meetings and required training
- Provides personal tools needed to complete job duties as assigned
- Provides excellent customer service
- Enforce and abide by all cooperative policies

- Assists with recordkeeping and filing needs
- Good communication with all employees and customers
- Handles customer complaints smoothly
- Notifies supervisor of problems
- Solves problems as quickly as possible, either personally or through communication with the supervisor
Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; fluent reading, writing, and speaking the English language
Experience:
- Journeyman-level mechanic experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience working on heavy-duty trucks, agricultural equipment, and trailers preferred
- Progressively responsible mechanical experience preferred
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills necessary
License, Certificate, or Registration: Valid Driver’s License required; Valid Class A CDL preferred, or ability to obtain
