About the Department

Provide laboratory support, including set-up, tear-down, and technical assistance, to facilitate high-quality, safe, and engaging learning experiences in biology courses across the LC main campus (Godfrey) and the N.O. Nelson campus (Edwardsville). Supported courses include, but are not limited to, General Biology, Botany, Zoology, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Human Biology. Additionally, this role will help maintain and expand the capabilities of the Biology Department.
Position Duties
- Arrange and prepare laboratory set-ups for lab-practical examinations in biology courses and in collaboration with biology faculty and the biology program coordinator, ensuring environments that support safe, engaging, and high-quality student learning experiences.
- Facilitate timely and efficient tear-down of laboratory activities and examinations, working in partnership with faculty and program leadership to maintain organized, accessible, and well-functioning lab spaces.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of laboratory supplies, equipment, and safety protocols, including the proper use of sterilization equipment for microbiology decontamination, reinforcing responsible and compliant lab practices.
- Maintain accurate inventory of laboratory supplies across both campuses and proactively communicate supply needs to the coordinator.
- Prepare and organize materials for labs, greenhouse activities, and course support functions (e.g., photocopying), while contributing to the exploration and implementation of new lab activities that enhance instructional quality and student engagement.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in biology related field.
- Punctual and responsible work behavior.
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the community college required.
- Occasionally moves and/or transports laboratory materials weighing up to 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Other Qualifications
- Laboratory experience at the college level in biology preferred.
Team Members can expect to be paid an hourly rate of $18.79.
