Job Description

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing laboratory procedures in accordance with current best practice. They will report directly to the lab director to ensure all procedures are accurately processed and any reporting will be provided to the lab director or manager on site.

Summary of Essential Job Functions 

The key responsibilities of the Lab Technician include but not limited to: 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow established procedures for obtaining and processing biological specimens for analysis in the laboratory.
  • Learn operating and maintenance procedures for automated analytical equipment and as assigned by the laboratory director and in accordance with established protocol.
  • Develop the ability to recognize factors and instrumental behavior that affects analytical measurement and result and takes appropriate corrective action in accordance with established protocols
  • Recognize equipment malfunctions and failures and takes proper action
  • Perform periodic maintenance on laboratory equipment (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly or as needed) and fill all proper paperwork.
  • Record temperature of refrigerators and freezers
  • File all laboratories records and keeps them in accordance with State and CLIA requirements
  • Always follow appropriate safety practices in the laboratory.
  • Paraprofessionals may not admit, transfer, or discharge clients. They may be directed to follow through with the process of implementation of the above by the director or designee.
  • Attending staff in-services and meeting.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulatory bodies, as well as accrediting agencies
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local regulatory agency requirements

  • Participate in community and public relations activities as assigned.

  • Participate in and provide in-service trainings as required by federal, state, local, and accrediting agencies
  • Attend conferences, meetings and training programs as directed
  • Participate in and/or schedule and attend regular in-service trainings

Minimum Requirements 

  • The Lab technician will preferably hold a high school diploma and be knowledge in the field of behavioral health. The Lab Technician will display the following abilities below.

Qualifications

The Lab Technician must have the following qualifications.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • First Aid and CPR Certified.
  • In addition to meeting the qualifications, the ideal candidate will embody the following
  • characteristics and possess the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below:
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Have experience in the CD treatment field and 2-3 years related experience required, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must know and understand the implication of Rule 245G, and Minnesota Statutes, chapter 245A (Human Services Licensing Act-HSLA), sections 260E (Maltreatment of Minors Act MOMA), 626.557 (Vulnerable Act-VAA), and 626.5572 (VAA definitions).
  • Minimum of one-year continuing freedom from chemical use problems.
  • On-going training on cultural awareness and demonstration of sensitivity to various cultural norms and values.
  • CPR and first aid certified.
  • Can work independently.
  • The ability to lift and move objects weighing a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Strong verbal skills and ability to communicate with a variety of people from diverse cultures, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds
  • Flexibility to meet a variety of changing priorities
  • Computer skills to draft emails, memos, and reporting
