The Lead Pharmacy Technician plays a key role in developing and maintaining standardized workflows, as well as designing and delivering training programs for pharmacy technicians and assistant/cashier staff. Working under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacists, this role supports order entry and prescription dispensing in compliance with state and federal regulations.
In addition to operational responsibilities, the Lead Pharmacy Technician performs administrative functions, including coordination of staff break and lunch schedules, and assisting with scheduling through the pharmacy scheduling software. The Lead Pharmacy Technician will also be responsible for collecting and analyzing drug cost data, monitoring prescription reimbursement trends, and assisting with 340B compliance audits. This position collaborates closely with the Pharmacy Purchasing and Inventory Coordinator, regularly reviewing recalls, shortages, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and implementing best-practice inventory management strategies to optimize pharmacy operations.

What You’ll Do:
Serves as a key participant in project implementation supporting the Pharmacy Manager and pharmacy staff
Supports training for Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants/Cashiers for onboarding and workflow optimizations
Maintains inventory levels in collaboration with the Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacy Inventory and Purchasing Coordinator
Conducts team huddles, or assists in the Pharmacy Manager in pharmacy meetings by preparation of agenda, collection and disbursement of notes and action items
Lead for pharmacy software and inventory management for the pharmacy, including DSCSA maintenance
Meets regularly with other Lead Pharmacy Technicians and the Pharmacy Inventory and Purchasing Coordinator to address drug recalls, shortages, and cost saving opportunities
Perform 340B audits, working with the Pharmacy Compliance and Operations Specialist(s)
Coordinate Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacy Assistant/Cashier schedule requests to ensure appropriate coverage, in collaboration with the Pharmacy Manager, utilizing the pharmacy scheduling software
Enters patient data in the system including patient name, insurance, allergies, doctor and diagnosis
Enters the prescription in the system, selecting the brand, product/drug, and appropriate strength to align with the instructions given by the prescribing Provider
Fills or dispenses the product from the pharmacy stock and delivers to patient
Processes prescription refills verifying refill availability
Epic Super User (if assigned) – Works as a liaison with the Epic Training Team and end users providing operational and project support
Maintains awareness of stock level and enters order for restocking based on defined minimum inventory levels. Verifies quantity and submits order to the Wholesaler
Verifies product orders received with invoice and purchase order. Places a sticker on each item and places on the shelf
Monitors and checks expiration dates on drugs in stock and prepares expired stock for return to Wholesaler. Processes credit invoices associated with the returns
Returns or discards dispensed prescription to stock if not picked up by patient at the direction of the Pharmacy Manager. Enters information in the system for reverse billing
Completes third party billing form and contacts Provider if prior authorization is required
Performs clinical responsibilities in alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and YVFWC requirements
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Two-year Associate Degree program in healthcare or business preferred
Pharmacy Technician license for state(s) of practice (WA and/or OR)
2 years of Pharmacy Technician experience
Minimum 1 year as a YVFWC employee in good standing with the organization, up to date on all licensure and required competencies
Previous Lead Technician, or pharmacy purchasing experience preferred
National license through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), 3+ years of Pharmacy Technician experience preferred
Pharmacy Technician license for state(s) of practice
Bilingual English/ Spanish preferred at a level 9
This position is eligible for Bilingual Differential Compensation when an ALTA score of 9 is achieved
Advanced knowledge of YVFWC's current pharmacy software system, and ability to learn new systems
Effective verbal and listening communication skills with a customer-oriented approach
Additional Lead Requirements:
