JOB TITLE: Retail Services Lead Technician
JOB STATUS: Non-Exempt
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED:
Lead technician shall be responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance and repair of the Jackson County Utility Authority’s retail STEP systems, grinder pump stations, sewer lift stations, gravity sewer taps, and water service taps and service lines. Assist Retail Supervisor with scheduling of work and ensuring tasks are completed per JCUA specifications. Operate and maintain the retail service equipment such as dump truck, backhoe, track hoe, and mini excavators. Operate equipment in a safe manner. Guide the technicians in the field and make educated decisions. Maintain good penmanship and thoroughly complete work orders and other reports for supervisor’s review. Must be able to manage time efficiently. Monitor all equipment being operated for unusual conditions or irregularities of performance. Initiate work orders on assigned equipment and report abnormalities to Retail Supervisor. Maintain records as required. Perform routine service maintenance on Authority equipment as directed. Perform related work as required or directed by supervisor. Respond to emergency problems during and after normal working hours as required. Other tasks as directed.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools employed in heavy equipment operations. Heavy equipment operation and maintenance is highly desirable. Basic PVC plumbing and electrical experience. Specific training from a vocational school in maintenance and operation of heavy equipment is also desirable. MS Class II Collection System Operator certification is desirable. Experience communicating in a professional manner with residents and customers alike.
SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS MAY INCLUDE
(But are not limited to):
1. Must have valid Mississippi driver’s license for all Authority vehicles.
2. Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL within six (6) months of employment.
3. Must obtain CS II Collections System License within eighteen (18) months of employment.
4. Must be a high school graduate (GED acceptable)
5. Must have experience with PVC, HDPE, and brass plumbing fittings, and basic electrical knowledge.
6. Must have experience in the operation and maintenance of dump trucks, backhoes, trackhoes, mini excavators, and other heavy equipment.
7. Must possess the skills necessary to effectively communicate and relate to members of the general public.
8. Must be physically capable of operating all Authority vehicles and working with hand tools, lift and carry loads up to standard 3 HP grinder pumps. Must meet all physical conditions established by Authority Industrial Wellness Advisor and Evaluator.
9. Must be insurable on Authority's auto insurance policy.
10. Must maintain a residence which allows a reasonable response time.
11. Must maintain a MS Driver’s License
12. Must be able to work around a wastewater environment.
