About the Department

San Bernardino County is hiring for Legal Support Assistants. Legal Support Assistants perform journey-level, specialized legal clerical work in support of attorneys within a County law office or law division. Responsibilities include preparing, reviewing, and processing a variety of legal documents, digital media, records, and correspondence in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Other related duties may also be assigned as needed.

The resulting eligible list may be used to fill vacancies throughout San Bernardino County. Candidates should indicate the specific offices they are willing to accept an assignment. Please do not select any offices with which you are not willing to work. This list will be used exclusively by the Public Defender's office.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Background: A background investigation will be conducted, including a DOJ/FBI fingerprint check and drug screening. 

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Position Duties

CANDIDATES MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING OPTION REQUIREMENTS:

Option 1Six (6) months of full-time office clerical work experience.

Option 2 (any of the following): 

  • Completion of an SBC Certificate Program 
  • Office Assistant Certification 
  • Twelve (12) semester units in an accredited institution
  • Completion of a Legal Administrative Assistant, Legal Secretary or Paralegal program from a recognized occupational training program or community business college

Please Note: If you are qualifying under Option 2, you must attach your certificate and/or transcripts of completion to your application at the time of submission. Failure to do so may result in disqualification from the recruitment process.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in a legal environment. Incumbents with strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines are highly desired.
