Stephens Memorial Hospital has a full time opening for Licensed Vocational Nurse to work in TDJC/ Walker Sayle Unit 


Shift: Monday-Friday/ days, with some weekend on call

Position: Licensed Vocational Nurse

Reports to: Director of Nursing


Responsibilities

- Delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.

- Delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.

- In coordination with Medical Records Clerk, ensures all medical records are maintained, filed, and available for the health care provider.

- Performs and completes assessments to include vital signs and weight of the offenders on admissions to infirmary

- Makes nursing rounds on all treatment separation offenders and document accordingly

- Treats any complaints per protocol to maintain a safe level of care while on the unit

- Provides offender teaching on health problems as needed using protocols, and dispensing medication per protocol policy

- Documents and reports abnormal findings to DON or in her/his absence to RN, physician, or other appropriate personnel 

- Assists physician through clinic appointments and follow specific orders

- Monitor refrigerator temperature and log results

- Maintain count of sharps and narcotics per shift

- Monitors all equipment, supplies, and ensure equipment is in proper working order

- Ensures sufficient stock of supplies is on hand to accommodate inmates as necessary


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Standard medical setting in a correctional facility. Includes daily interactions with inmates, correctional staff, and health care personnel.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.

-Maintains a current license with the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.

- Correctional experience strongly preferred
