About the Department
Do you love Oakdale and want to be part of keeping it well maintained? We have a seasonal opportunity that offers just that option. The City of Oakdale is looking for a mature and patient individual to assist the City with identifying and ensuring compliance with the City's weeds and long grass ordinances. Working within our Community Development department, this position will partner closely with our code enforcement officer and building inspector on a seasonal, part-time basis. The successful candidate must be able to effectively work independently, communicate clearly and tactfully, and have a valid driver's license with Minnesota driving privileges.
This part-time, temporary position is anticipated to average 8–12 hours per week. Hours will generally be scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, subject to workload and departmental needs.
Position Duties
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work collaboratively with other staff to provide excellent and responsive public service
- Respond to complaints regarding weed and long grass, including verifying compliance, issuing violation notices, and performing compliance inspections
- Assist staff with other code compliance responsibilities
- Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled hours
- Perform responsibilities with tact, diplomacy, and discretion
- Represent the city in a courteous, responsive, and professional manner in all interactions
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Able to communicate tactfully and professionally to a variety of stakeholders and interested parties
- Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Perform other duties as assigned

RESPONSIBILITY

Minimum Qualifications
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience and training required.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least three years' experience working effectively with the public
- Valid drivers license with Minnesota driving privileges and an acceptable driving record

Benefits
Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST)
- Seasonal employees are eligible for Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) as required by Minnesota Statutes 181.9447, subdivision 9.
- Employees will accrue ESST at the rate of one (1) hour for every thirty (30) hours worked, up to 48 hours a year. Employees must work at least 80 hours in a year to be eligible to use ESST.
- Employees will be provided the complete ESST policy at time of orientation which explains how ESST can be used.
Minnesota Paid Leave (MPL)MPL is a public insurance program administered by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (“DEED”) (“state-administered program”), providing eligible employees with paid leave for family and medical reasons beginning January 1, 2026. Most workers in Minnesota will be covered by MPL benefits. Employees will generally be covered by MPL benefits if they have been paid at least $3,900 from an employer for work performed in Minnesota in 2025.
The MPL plan is funded by premium contributions payable to City of Oakdale’s designated MPL insurance carrier, Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company, and split between employers and employees pursuant to Minn. Stat. sec. 268B.14, subd. 3. Employers pay a portion of the premium contribution, while employees pay the remaining portion of the contribution through a payroll deduction, up to 0.44% of employee wages.
