Saint Mary’s Hall anticipates hiring an outstanding part-time Academic Support Specialist: Math to be a part of a successful Academic Support team. The candidate selected for Academic Support Specialist: Math will provide support and instruction to identified students and other interested students through an after-school program. This will be a 30-hour position with Benefits. The Academic Support Specialist: Math will coordinate with teachers, administrators, and parents to design and facilitate differentiated and personalized learning support that is aligned to classroom instructional goals.

Qualified Candidates will have the following:
- B.A./B.S. degree in education required; advanced degree in Math, Education or related field preferred
- At least 2 years of successful elementary teaching experience
- Applicants should have a passion for working with bright students in a rigorous, college-preparatory environment
- Experience designing and incorporating student-centered, interdisciplinary lessons through active, experiential learning
- Experience scaffolding lessons appropriately and providing intervention, enrichment, and incorporating differentiation to meet student needs
- Clear understanding and ability to support the developmental stages and social/emotional development of elementary aged children
- Growth mindset and ability to create a space for students to explore and wonder
- Excellent classroom management skills in building and facilitating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom community

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities to the General Community:
- Serve as an integral and collaborative member of the Academic Support Team
- Assess and identify strengths and weaknesses of students in need of academic support in cooperation with the appropriate student support team
- Maintain working knowledge of Saint Mary’s Hall curriculum and instructional strategies
- Focus on developing foundational math and study skills and work to help students understand key concepts learned in the classroom
- Consult with teachers and student support teams to determine the most effective strategies to support students learning and design appropriate instruction interventions for students
- Effectively integrate technology to enhance curriculum and communication with students, parents, and colleagues
- Prepare, maintain, and submit academic reports updating classroom teachers on student progress
- Review student progress with Academic Support Team regularly
- Alert the Head of Lower School immediately of concerns with children, parents or staff
- Report all accidents immediately to the Head of Lower School and School Nurse and prepare a written report stating date, time, nature of accident and action taken
- Maintain on-going communication with teachers and parents regarding a child’s specific needs
- Protect the privacy and confidentiality of students and colleagues at all times
- Abide by all Saint Mary’s Hall policies and procedures
- Attend any special meeting(s) requested by the Administration
- Seek and attend professional development to enhance Lower School practices and enrich the classroom
- Assist with other projects, programs and planning as assigned by the Head of Lower School

- Recognize the relationship between social-emotional learning and academic performance and show an ability to teach the “whole child”
- Responsible for the care and maintenance of a clean, orderly and organized classroom

- Exhibit a professional manner and appearance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Maintain an attitude of collegiality and to be able to communicate effectively, positively and collaboratively with educational team and especially parents
- Ability to build and foster positive, professional relationships with parents
- Serve as a positive ambassador for Saint Mary’s Hall in the larger community
- Ability to meet the demands and challenges of a fast-paced work environment and demonstrate flexibility as needed
- Possess a good working knowledge of and/or a familiarity with a variety of instructional technology such as Windows applications, iPad integration, interactive whiteboard, and student portfolio applications and a willingness to implement new instructional technology initiatives

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Work in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods
- Must be able to teach, instruct, and communicate with students, parents, coworkers, visitors, and other professionals in the English language
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
