JOB TITLE: SENIOR INSTRUCTOR
Mystryde Athletic Club is a Boston-based boutique fitness studio with three locations offering a variety of classes ranging from all-treadmill based run classes, to all functional strength classes, and classes that combine the two.
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
MAC is seeking a Senior Instructor who is passionate, energetic, and experienced in leading MAC’s dynamic classes. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in a team environment, is knowledgeable in fitness programming, and is dedicated to helping members improve their performance, and is invested in bettering all Mystryde instructors.
Key Responsibilities of a MAC Instructor
- Plan and deliver engaging, safe, effective and FUN group classes for participants of all levels.
- Create and implement class routines that are innovative and challenging.
- Provide modifications and progressions to accommodate all fitness levels during classes.
- Ensure the safety of all participants by monitoring class activities and providing corrective guidance.
- Maintain a positive and motivating atmosphere in the class.
- Foster a welcoming environment for everyone
- Stay current with industry trends and certifications to ensure classes are up-to-date and relevant.
- Set up and clean up equipment before and after classes.
- Be an advocate for all of MAC’s programs, events, instructors and classes.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Participate in Mystryde classes (1-2 per week)
- Represent the Mystryde brand both inside and outside the studio.
MAC Instructor Qualifications + Requirements:
- Certification from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM) is preferred, but not necessary
- Certified Functional Strength Coach (CFSC) Certification required
- Background in strength training, HIIT, or treadmill-based workouts preferred
- Up to date CPR/AED certification - required
- Strong knowledge of exercise physiology, kinesiology, and injury prevention.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire participants.
- High energy and positive attitude.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings and some holidays - required
MAC Senior Instructor Specific Qualifications:
- 2+ years of teaching experience, preferably at Mystryde or at least 1 year teaching at Mystryde if taught elsewhere previously
- Ability to teach 4 classes a week
- Can teach all Mystryde formats (Tread + Power Room)
- Our Sr. Instructors are approachable, trustworthy and bring true leadership to the Mystryde instructor organization.
- To be considered for this role it’s required that applicants do more than just check the box of classes taught, classes attended and years of experience.
- Applicants will be required to meet with Mystryde Management and Lead Instructors prior to being selected for this role.
MAC Senior Instructor Specific Requirements:
- Must evaluate and document one instructor class per month
- Must take 1-2+ classes per week
- Work with other Sr. Instructors and Lead Instructors to organize one team building event per year.
- Assist with marketing event support as able
- Support Lead Instructors with MAC U. as able
- Ability to keep internal information and evaluations confidential
- Absolutely no drama around Mystryde or other Mystryde instructors

- Approachable and friendly with all instructors
- Flexibility to attend weekly check- in meetings
Responsibilities Elaborated:
- The Sr. Instructor role is a leadership role within the MAC instructor organization that helps MAC ensure consistency and brand integrity across the board. To do so, you are responsible for attending at least one class per month and evaluating the instructor by filling out the Internal Evaluation Form and meeting with the instructor to review the form afterward.
- Weekly meetings with the Sr. + Lead Instructors meetings will make sure we’re hitting our evaluation and team workshop commitments, as well as keeping in touch on any other issues.
- These may be more frequent depending on training cycles and in-studio events.
- As a group, with other Sr. Instructors and Lead Instructors, you will help organize one team building event per year.
- This can be an organized night out or something in studio, but doesn’t necessarily need to be a workshop. Something to get people together and have fun.
- Assist with marketing event support as able
- Info. tables, Mystryde runs, fundraisers
- Support Lead Instructors with MAC U:
- You will be looped into the MAC U. Training schedule for mic practices and zoom meetings
- Support management and leads with mic practices and zoom as needed
- In weekly meetings we will connect on events, evaluations and marketing support needed.
Training:
During MAC Training (8-10 weeks) you can expect to allocate between 4-8 hours a week between mic practices, zoom meetings, a weekly check in call and communicating with Lead Instructors.
- During trainings, Senior Instructors are paid $30/hour ($2,400 for 10 weeks) and will be paid in two payments: $1,200 at the beginning of training and $1,200 at the end of training
- In the three months after a training cycle, you can expect to spend between 2-6 hours a week between reviewing workouts, new instructor check ins, a class evaluation, a weekly check in call and communicating with Sr. Instructors.
- Hours billed at $20/hour in tracking sheet
- In the time when there is no new instructor training, and the newest instructors are up and running, you can expect to allocate between 1-4 hours a week between a class evaluation, a weekly check in call and communicating with Sr. Instructors.
- Hours billed at $20/hour in tracking sheet
- If hours exceed 6 in a non-training week, let Lauren Meyer know - we don’t want to burn you out and will find a way to streamline our processes or address what is taking up a lot of time.
POWER Classes:
- POWER Class training will still live with Marguerite.
- Sr. Instructors are encouraged to take POWER classes and relay feedback and/or formatting ideas to Marguerite
Logistics:
- Lauren Meyer is your main point of contact for any logistics, questions or concerns in this role.
- Use the group email and regular check ins for anything that everyone should have eyes on.
- Each Sr. Instructor will work closely with a Lead Instructor. This will help streamline the evaluation process, any issues that arise within the MAC instructor teams and make sure that any issues that arise are funnelling up through the appropriate channels.
- You will be compensated $100 for the team workshops that you organize and lead.
- You will receive a new Sr. Instructor rate for Mystryde classes that increases your base pay per class to $30/class.
