Job Description

AC Hotel Vancouver Waterfront is currently seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join our growing team!

The Maintenance Engineer plays a critical role in assuring product quality through preventative maintenance of rooms/suites. The individual work schedule plan is from Sunday through Thursday from 1:30 pm to 10:00pm. Work day and time schedule are subject to change depending on the business and its department operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Responds promptly and follows through on guest requests in effective and friendly manner.
  • Trouble shoots and repairs basic maintenance, electrical, technical, HVAC and plumbing needs in guest rooms/suites.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance on all guest room/suite furniture, fixtures and equipment. 
  • Ensures the comfort of guests by doing routine checks and maintenance on the hotel’s heating and cooling systems.
  • Inspects plumbing on a regular basis by checking for rusty or ruptured pipes, toilet malfunctions, and water damage to ceilings and floors, water pressure, cracked tiles and leaks.
  • Makes sure that all toilets flush, drains are unclogged and sinks, tubs and pools are leak-free. 
  • Checks electrical wires, plugs and circuit breakers.
  • Checks the hotel’s lighting needs. Change bulbs, ballasts and fixtures.
  • Ensures that sprinkler systems are working properly.
  •  Ensures that all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors have fully-functioning batteries .
  • Locks on the door to the main entrance, bedrooms, conference rooms, storage closets and other areas in the hotel should be routinely monitored.
  • Other security measures include checking the alarm systems and fire extinguishers. 
  • Cares for furniture by checking for loose pieces, worn-out upholstery, discoloration, scratches, dents and even misplaced furniture.
  • Maintains the exterior by power-washing, freshening up the paint
  • Ensures that garden areas are properly watered.
  • Checks to make sure the tables, chairs, projection screens and equipment function properly and that the meeting spaces are presentable for guests and their attendees. 
  • Adheres to key control policies and procedures.
  • Ensures good working order of furniture, fixtures and equipment of public areas.
  • Effectively completes department paperwork, including work orders, activity log, shift checklists, etc.
  • Working knowledge of safety lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) system including accurately posting on safety LOTO board, safety LOTO cards, locks, padlocks and extra, keys are properly stored and marked. 
  • Properly stores and secures tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Complies with hotel safety prevention rules and techniques, including fire safety.

  • Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with guests and coworkers and including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Respectfully takes direction from supervisor.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices and procedures and reports all unsafe activities to supervisor.
  •  Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve hotel and company goals.
  • Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of basic repair and maintenance skills, including carpentry, grouting, painting, caulking and blueprint reading
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Basic Math skills
  • Basic computer skills 
  • Ability and flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
