Description

 

The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for the precision building, repair, and maintenance of components used in injection mold tooling. This role requires expert-level machining skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and the capability to work independently on complex mold systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Injection Mold Fabrication — Build, fit, and assemble components for new and existing injection molds, ensuring all parts meet tight tolerances and functional requirements.
  • Welding & Brazing — Perform welding, brazing, and silver soldering to repair damaged or worn mold components.
  • Precision Machining — Machine buildup areas back to specification using mills, lathes, grinders, and other shop equipment.
  • Mold Teardown & Inspection — Complete full teardown, cleaning, and detailed inspection of mold components to identify wear, damage, or required modifications.
  • Measurement & Documentation — Measure, record, and document all repairs, modifications, and dimensional changes.
  • Tool Corrections — Make corrections or adjustments to tooling with or without engineering drawings, relying on experience and problem-solving skills.
  • Quality & Safety — Maintain high standards of workmanship, follow safety protocols, and ensure all tooling meets production and quality requirements.
Requirements

Job Requirements:

1. Preventive maintenance and repairs on injection molds to include: building and fitting parts for injection molds, welding, blazing and silver soldering for repairs needing build up.

2. Machining build up areas back to specifications.

3. Complete teardown, cleaning and inspection of all mold components.

4. Measure and document repairs and modifications.

5. Building parts to tolerances of .0005 or less.

6. Make correction to tools with or without drawings and/or measure, create drawings for tools that may not have drawings.

7. Coordinate with engineering staff for CAD blueprints.

8. General housekeeping duties including sweeping, etc. to keep all work areas clean. 

9. Compliance with ISO 9001 standard 

10. Commitment to 5s, including: 

a. Demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining a clean organized, and efficient workplace by applying the principles of 5S. 

b. Actively participate in keeping the work environment orderly. 

c. Identify opportunities to improve workflows. 

d. Adhere to established standards to ensure safety, quality, and productivity

e. Support continuous improvement by fostering an atmosphere of respect for materials, equipment, and shared spaces. 

f. Encourage team accountability for sustaining a well-organized workplace. 


Experience:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.
  2. 1-2 years of experience with mold building and/or mold repair
  3. 1-2 years machine shop experience
  4. Experience with injection molding desired
  5. Able to run 3 axis (manual) milling machine, lathe, surface grinder, CNC (Mazak preferred)      EDM machine and shop presses.
  6. Able to read, write and communicate in English
  7. Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
