About the Department

The MAIPSE Educational Coach reports to the Director of the Office for Students with Disabilities and Deaf Services and works collaboratively with MAIPSE Program Coordinators to foster access, success, and retention of students with intellectual disabilities and autism enrolled in the Massachusetts Inclusive Post Secondary Ed Program (MAIPSE).

The MAIPSE Program at Holyoke Community College is a fully inclusive postsecondary program for young adults 18 or older with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. The Education Coach provides support to students that reflects each students’ individual needs, goals, and interests, and maximizes academic, vocational, and social opportunities. As part of the Office for Students with Disabilities & Deaf Services (OSDDS), the MAIPSE Education Coach plays an integral role in the advancement of equity, inclusion, and feelings of belonging for students with disabilities at HCC.

Position Duties

Support students, over the age of 18, in inclusive post-secondary educational settings, such as classes or vocational activities on HCC’s main campus and Culinary Arts Institute campus, as needed.
Facilitate student’s healthy self-management skills inside and outside of the classroom including but not limited to developing effective study habits, utilizing on campus resources, accessing technology for learning and communication, navigating positive social interactions and relationships, and participating in student activities.
Develop realistic and effective student strategies that foster independence and autonomy.
Facilitate students’ understanding of the accommodation agreement and how to utilize their accommodations to access classroom and campus experiences.
Serve as a program liaison between students, faculty and staff, and MAIHE coordinators with professionalism and positivity.
Maintain confidentiality regarding educational records and sensitive student information.
Attend identified professional development trainings and meetings as required by MAIHE and OSDDS.
Complete program data collection forms related to student progress and record keeping.
Provide verbal/written feedback of all requested observations for the purpose of assisting in evaluating students.
Additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
Two (2) plus years of demonstrated experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities/autism.
Demonstrated commitment and experience with the principles of inclusion and self-determination for people with disabilities is required.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate students and build positive relationships with a diverse group of MAIHE stakeholders.
Strong computer literacy skills and an ability to learn assistive technology applications.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Commitment to diversity and experience working with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

PREFERRED:

Three (3) or more years of demonstrated experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities/autism.
Demonstrated commitment to principles of culturally responsive teaching and services, including neurodiversity and neuro divergent affirming practices.
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or bi-lingual English/Spanish.

Other Qualifications

Part-Time, Non-Benefited, MCCC Unit Position

Compensation: $36.55/hour; non-benefited

Hours: 962 hours/annual contract, 18.5 hours/week with varying schedule based on student and program needs.

Funding Source: Grant

- All candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States. HCC is not sponsoring H1B Visa.
