The team you will be a part of

Verification & Validation (V&V) Engineering team supporting the Global KitchenAid Small Appliance (KASA) business. The KASA V&V Engineering team evaluates new products and product enhancements, focusing on product safety and performance. This team leads, plans and tracks all phases of the product approval cycle, from inception to introduction into the marketplace, while coordinating with various functions to ensure successful implementation.

This role in summary

Whirlpool is currently seeking for a V&V Lead Engineer that will create Verification and Validation Plans based on requirement areas including Codes, Safety, Regulatory, Performance and Reliability. The V&V Lead Engineer will facilitate seamless communication to platform teams and other stakeholders in order to plan ahead for products to meet relevant external and internal requirements in respective regions. This role is for the St. Joseph, MI location. 



Your responsibilities will include

● Ensure that the applicable Codes, Safety and Regulatory requirements are included in the Development and Industrialization phases of new product projects 

● Partner with project System Integration and Subsystem Engineers to develop validation and verification plans per project timeline and proactively manage execution

● Employ Systems Engineering concepts and tools for target setting and connection of verification cases to requirements

● Drive Safety Maturity and leverage Safety Audits to identify, evaluate and close potential safety hazards. Support the investigation and resolution of safety issues identified during the project

● Support investigation and analysis of safety hazards identified in the field, contributing to close proposed solutions per product safety PHM process.

● Collaborate with project teams to provide risk assessments, investigate root causes of issues and propose alternative solutions in a proactive manner. Support Design Reviews with active participation.

● Provide traceable and complete approval documentation with appropriate context for product development and industrialization

● Work with Design Engineers, Simulation Teams and V&V roles to develop or evolve test specifications as needed. Drive Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Simulation Based Design (SBD) and alternative verification methods to reduce physical testing.

● Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve V&V efficiency and support the KASA roadmap.

 

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 5+ years Engineering & Product Development experience (Verification and Validation, Design for Safety, Requirements Management, Systems Engineering, System Integration)

  • Continuous improvement mindset: ability to ‘do and improve the work’

  • Understanding of product safety and codes requirements

Preferred skills and experiences

  • GPO core (APQP, DFS, system engineering, project management, WPD) competencies

  • QFD, FMEA, Reliability and Product Safety tools

  • Design for Safety Level 5

  • OpEx Black Belt

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence others.

  • Drive and coach System Engineering Capabilities and Mindsets.
