Job Description

Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB) delivers a comprehensive suite of banking, capital markets and advisory solutions, including a full complement of sales, trading and research capabilities, to corporate, government and institutional clients. We focus on our clients' overall financial needs, with consideration and respect for their total relationship with Wells Fargo.

The position is a Managing Director (MD) corporate banking relationship management role, focused on rapidly growing large corporate companies, within Wells Fargo’s Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB). The banker will represent our Healthcare Services practice. They will be responsible for delivering a broad range of corporate and investment banking solutions to a diverse group of companies. The role has a heavy emphasis on relationship development and management, idea generation, collaboration, and driving platform penetration.

Corporate Banking MDs are responsible for developing and maintaining strategic relationships with a broad range of corporate clients and delivering the full platform of Wells Fargo’s capabilities including Debt & Equity Capital Markets, Leveraged Finance, M&A related Acquisition Finance, Treasury Management, Derivatives, Working Capital Solutions and Credit.  This position requires an experienced, relationship manager capable of driving business independently. The successful candidate should have a proven ability to develop C-suite relationships, corporate finance expertise, strong transaction execution skills, and strong credit and treasury services product knowledge. Healthcare sector experience is strongly desired.  While not required, experience with private equity and sponsor related transactions is a plus.

CIB relies on our senior relationship managers to make well-informed decisions affecting profitability, risk management, and long term portfolio growth; including being able to effectively manage communication with junior team members, peers, product partners, senior management and clients.  Senior MDs must have an executive presence and be efficient and effective at written and oral communication internally and externally.  In addition, MDs are expected to be able to make decisions with limited information as situations evolve and provide guidance to internal teams and clients on management of the process and identification of clear next steps.   Senior relationship managers are expected to drive results and culture consistent with the strategic direction of WF, CIB and leadership; develop frequent and collaborative dialogue with partner groups to manage risk; facilitate decision making; and foster a strong team environment.  In addition, it is important for senior relationship managers to develop strong relationships with junior bankers to support training, development, and wellness and maintain composure & productivity in difficult or high pressure situations.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, maintain and generate revenue from the most important and financially complex clients;

  • Initiate and maintain strategic dialogue with clients and prospects to deliver the full suite of WF products and services including credit, capital markets, treasury management, Macro, commodities and working capital solutions

  • Deliver solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking, and coordination of highly complex activities and guidance to others

  • Handle all aspects of client interaction, including directing and coordinating execution of transactions with key product partners

  • Provide vision, direction, and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions that are large-scale cross-functional or companywide strategies

  • Process larger syndicated transactions where Wells Fargo has a lead role and be active in providing financial advice, ideas and solutions to client base

  • Engage with all levels of professionals and managers companywide and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

  • Serve as a mentor to junior staff

  • Strictly comply with all regulatory and WF rules, policies, and procedures


Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of Sales, Client Services, Corporate Banking experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of the Healthcare sector

  • 10 years of experience delivering corporate and investment banking products and services to middle market and/or large corporate clients

  • BA/BS degree required; MBA preferred

  • Proven track record in business development and client management

  • Ability to deliver positive and challenging messaging to clients

  • High level of intensity and client calling velocity

  • Ability to develop close client relationships and partnerships

  • Close coordination and communication with Product and Coverage partners

  • Ability to develop and maintain credibility with internal partners and management

  • Strong corporate finance, analytical, credit and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent oral and written communications abilities

  • Knowledge and experience with DCM, ECM, M&A acquisition financing, Leveraged Finance, Credit, Treasury services, other corporate and investment banking products

  • Self-motivated, dependable and intelligent

  • Completion of a recognized investment banking or credit training program


Job Expectations:

  • Registration for Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted

  • Registration for FINRA Series 79 must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted

  • Registration for FINRA Series 63 (or 66) must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time

  • This position is subject to FINRA Background Screening Requirements, including successful completion and clearing of a background check. Internal transfers are subject to comply with 17 CRF 240.17f-2 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and FINRA Bylaws, Article III, Section 3, which states that Associated Persons should not be subject to statutory disqualification. Successful candidates must also meet ongoing regulatory requirements including additional screening and are required to report certain incidents.
