Summary:
The Materials Supervisor oversees material flow within the facility, including bin-to-bin transfers, receiving, put-away tasks, transfer of product between locations, transfer of WIP between operations of the manufacturing floor, and inventory accuracy. This role ensures operational efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to company standards while fostering a collaborative and productive team environment. The supervisor is responsible for managing a team of material handlers, approving PTO, and conducting performance evaluations.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and motivate a team to achieve operational goals.
- Oversee daily workflows, ensuring timely and accurate completion of bin-to-bin transfers, receiving, put-away tasks, transfer of product between locations, transfer of WIP between operations of the manufacturing floor, and inventory updates.
- Lead periodic dock audits and bin counts, with accompanying root cause corrective actions on abnormalities.
- Audit Netsuite logs to verify daily processes adherence, and address gaps to process.
- Conduct regular team meetings to communicate priorities, updates, and safety standards.
- Promote teamwork and resolve conflicts to maintain a positive work environment.
- Manage and monitor bin-to-bin transfers to ensure proper material flow.
- Assist the planning and operations teams in ensuring accurate WIP before operations on the floor
- Ensure production and scrap transactions are happening in production.
- Oversee the put-away process, ensuring accurate placement of materials in designated storage areas.
- Lead the team to ensure same day receipt of all product hitting the dock, including;
- Audits of bills of lading against physical product in offloaded before the truck departs.
- Checking product for damage at time of delivery, denying receipt if necessary.
- Completion of receipts in Netsuite to the amount that was physically received.
- Follow through with buyer on any discrepancies between PO and receipt.
- Maintain inventory accuracy by implementing and enforcing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Perform and oversee the regular cycle counts to ensure accurate stock levels.
- When discrepancies are found, address the “missed transaction” as appropriate and follow up / retrain the original parties involved.
- Ie. If a product had to be written up because it wasn’t received, fix the receipt / train the receiving agent; if work order wasn’t closed properly, train supervisor, etc.

- Identify and address inefficiencies in material handling processes, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Approve PTO requests and manage team schedules to maintain adequate staffing levels.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and create development plans for team members.
- Monitor and address attendance, work habits, and job performance issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, including safety, quality, and operational standards.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.
- Conduct safety audits and provide training to team members on safe material handling practices.
- Investigate and report any workplace incidents or near-misses, implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Work closely with other departments, including production and quality assurance, to meet organizational goals.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy in material handling operations.
- Utilize warehouse management systems to track and manage inventory data effectively.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in supply chain, logistics, or operations is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in material handling or warehouse operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in inventory management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in forklift operation and material handling equipment.
- Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
Normal Working Hours and Conditions: Core business hours are generally 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. However, this position may require work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on Company operations.
Physical Requirements: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting including verbally communicating, seeing and hearing to exchange information and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard. Daily physical functions include standing, sitting and walking for prolonged periods of time and occasionally stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and twisting. The employee may engage in lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling light to moderate amounts of weight up to 50 pounds. The position also requires the operation of office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement.
