Position Overview:

Under supervision of the Maintenance Director, the position of the Mechanic is to maintain and repair vehicles. The mechanic is responsible for repairing and troubleshooting mechanical/electrical issues striving toward maximum reliability and functionality for the Estuary Transit Districts (ETD).


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Follows all safety policies and procedures
  • Understands and follows OSHA requirements for safety and environmental compliance
  • Performs regular corrective and preventative maintenance on all ETD vehicles according to district standards
  • Diagnoses and performs accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair
  • Removes, cleans, repairs, reinstalls, and adjusts vehicle components (Engine Emission Components, Driveline Components, Electrical/Electronic Components, Brakes/Suspension/Steering/Exhaust, Cab/Chassis, Hydraulics, HVAC).
  • Familiar with both S cam and Disc air brakes
  • Moves vehicles safely between job and work area, performs road tests and transports vehicles as needed
  • Safely operates welders, vehicle lifts, power and hand-held tools and various types of shop equipment
  • Maintains documentation as directed by Maintenance Director
  • Insures proper maintenance of shop facilities and equipment
  • Performs road calls and emergency services as necessary
  • Communicates professionally with customers, team members, and supervisors.
  • Actively participates in safety or educational training as required.
  • Other duties as assigned


Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Ability to work flexible hours 
  • Ability to physically and visually inspect equipment and vehicles
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, frequently exposed to extreme heat and cold
  • Frequently exposed to overhead reaching, pushing/ pulling and gripping tools
  • May be required to stoop, bend, kneel or climb
  • Occasionally lifts objects weighing up to 125 lbs.
  • Frequently uses hands/fingers to manipulate parts and equipment by utilizing operating tools such as wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, and other tools to successfully perform essential job-related tasks on a daily basis
  • Occasionally operates and maintains a sit down forklift, scissor lift and snow removal equipment
  • Frequently exposed to fumes, odors, hazardous materials, dirt and dust


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • (2) years of heavy diesel maintenance required; transit bus maintenance experience preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a required Commercial Driver’s License
  • Must pass USDOT physical and drug screen
  • Relevant ASE Certifications preferred
