We are seeking a Mechanic (Washington and Freeport yards - position hours 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) for its Boston Public Schools transportation contract. The Mechanic safely performs inspections and repairs to school buses to ensure the highest quality transportation service.

Responsibilities
Ensures buses operate in a safe, comfortable, like-new condition by performing high quality maintenance repairs and inspections.
Performs preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on vehicles.
Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical, HVAC, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution to solve problems.
Rebuilds engines, transmissions and other components.
Test drives buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
Performs road calls when needed.
Repairs and adjusts seats, doors, and windows, and installs and repairs accessories.
Inspects and verifies dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
Keeps assigned work area clean.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required :
A High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must maintain an excellent motor vehicle record.
Education, Licensing, and Certifications Preferred :
A degree in Automotive Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
A.S.E. certifications in school bus, heavy truck and/or transit bus.
A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.
A current DOT certification.
Experience Required :
Three (3) to five (5) years of recent bus or heavy duty truck repair experience.
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
Skills and Knowledge Required :
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, and various heavy equipment engines, transmissions, starting and charging systems, air brake systems, electrical systems, and component overhaul procedures.
Ability to operate hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
Must demonstrate the ability to work in a safe manner.
Must be able to comprehend parts books and maintenance manuals, and accurately complete any necessary reports or other documents.
Must possess basic computer knowledge.

Must lift 50 pounds from floor to bus; lift/carry 15 lbs up to 100’; push/pull 50 lbs up to 8’; torque 100 lbs. wheel lug; be able to squat; and move the steering wheel and operate pedals freely while seated in bus seat.
