POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mechanical Designer II is an intermediate-level role that plays a key part in the successful execution of projects, with a primary focus on the production of AutoCAD drawings and advanced mechanical design tasks. This position takes on increased responsibility by supporting the design engineer to complete quality design in an efficient and professional manner. The Mechanical Designer II is responsible for producing high-quality construction documents, coordinating design work with other engineering disciplines, and ensuring effective project management. The successful candidate will work within a team environment, collaborating with other project team members to achieve project goals.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Layout and design mechanical systems for assigned projects with limited support, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.
  • Prepare General Arrangement Drawings, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and construction documents.
  • Create 3D models and piping isometric drawings.
  • Perform design work on complex and diverse projects, often requiring multiple technologies.
  • Coordinate project design with other disciplines.
  • Conduct construction observations and field measurements.
  • Preview and review shop drawings.
  • Answer field questions.
  • Contribute to piping system design with approval and support.
  • Estimate project hours for tasks.
  • Participate in the shop drawing review process.
  • Conduct punchlists with supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • An AAS Degree in Mechanical Design/Drafting or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in mechanical design or related field.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit, including 2D and 3D modeling.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships and establish credibility.
  • Skilled at synthesizing ideas into actionable recommendations and positively influencing outcomes.
  • Strong planning, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Effectively present complex information to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Travel: May include up to 10% domestic travel.

Preferred

  • Experience in a consulting and/or construction capacity.
  • Experience in one or more of the following:  
    • Agribusiness process plants
    • Facility manufacturing
    • Food Manufacturing / Clean Systems
    • Central boiler and/or chiller plants
    • Underground tunnel distribution systems
    • Mechanical equipment / skid design
  • Mechanical/piping design experience.
  • Field experience is desirable.

Working Conditions

  • Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites.

Compensation: $34.00-43.00 per hour. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual qualifications, experience, work location, and education. This position is eligible for an annual bonus.
