Summary



 



The role of the Medical Assistant (MA) is an integral part of the patient care team in the Ambulatory Clinic setting. The MA is responsible for clinically and clerically supporting the physician and other staff members in the delivery of quality patient care, following established standards and procedures.



 



Responsibilities: 



 



Maintains patient flow to and from exam rooms. Greets and escorts patients and families to the exam room.



Obtains purpose of visit, vital signs, and documents appropriately. 



Prepares patients for physical exams



Assists physicians and/or providers with office procedures involving direct patient care. 



Performs diagnostic tests such as EKGs and spirometry.



Obtains specimens and performs screenings 



Administers immunizations and injections under the direct supervision of the physician. 



Cleans exam rooms after each patient visit.



Inventories and stocks supplies and equipment for exam rooms



Performs all duties in compliance with all federal and state regulations.



Listens courteously and responds to patient questions, concerns, and/or refers to the appropriate individual.



This role includes Protected Health Information (PHI) as part of regular responsibilities.



 



 



Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities




  • High School diploma or its equivalent. 

  • Graduate of accredited medical assistant program REQUIRED. (Certification is not required)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, families, and employees

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to establish priorities

  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records



 



 



Required Licensure or Certification



 



Current CPR/BLS certification
