Job Description

Role:



Perform administrative as well as clinical tasks such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, and assisting physicians and/or providers with exams.



Essential Functions & Responsibilities:




  • Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.

  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.

  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.

  • Clean and package instruments for autoclaving. Dispose of contaminated supplies using universal precautions for protection against bloodborne pathogens.

  • Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones.

  • Develop sense of trust with patients and relatives through active listening, professionalism and being sensitive to their needs for courtesy, dignity, and privacy.

  • Be familiar with and consistently implement the organizations mission and all approved policies, protocols, and procedures.

  • Attend training events and maintain competency as required to perform duties.

  • Regularly support compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned (e.g., OSHA, HIPAA).

  • Consistently demonstrate good use of time and resources.



Performance Measures:




  • Inventory and order medical, lab, or office supplies or equipment.

  • Schedule appointments for patients.

  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by provider.

  • Collect and log specimens then prepare them for testing.

  • Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.

  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients.

  • Complete insurance forms.

  • Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures.

  • Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission.

  • Administer routine diagnostic tests.

  • Change dressings on wounds.

  • Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
