As a member of the patient care team, the Medical Assistant is responsible for positive patient relations, accurate telephone communication, verification of patient information by interviewing patient and confirming purpose of visit. The Medical Assistant is also responsible to prepare the patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests, taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature, and reporting patient history summary.
This position will also be trained and will be responsible for appointment scheduling, and to perform routine duties associated with the collection and maintenance of current patient demographics and insurance information.
If required, functions as a scribe and to transcribe the physician dictated patient history, physical examination findings and procedures as performed by the physician; transcribe test results, patient education; pend orders and to prepare and edit scribed document for physician review and signature.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Adheres to all infection prevention standards – cleaning, sterilization, autoclaving procedures
- Administers immunization, injections, or oral medications as directed by provider
- Draws, prepares designated lab work and/or specimens as directed by provider
- Performs designated diagnostic tests based on scope of practice, as directed by provider
- Assists provider during examination/procedure based on scope of practice, as directed by provider
- Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures, positions patients on the exam table and adjusts equipment to acquire efficient views of specific body area as ordered by provider
- Performs procedures based on established technique chart using independent judgment to support the radiological orders
- Demonstrates accurate equipment usage, uses appropriate technique charts
- Follows appropriate exposure index ranges and assures markers are set appropriately
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma/GED Required
Vocational/Technical Diploma- Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited educational program required
License/Certification:
Basic Life Support Certification from the American Heart Association and/or the American Red Cross for Healthcare Providers Required (Upon Hire)
Experience:
2 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinical/medical office setting preferred
