Job Description

Job Summary:

Provide technical medical assistance to physicians, nurses, and supportive patient care in an acute care setting.

Reports to: Supervisor, Urgent Care | Manager, Urgent Care & ED

Hourly Range: $18.75-$30.44 (posted hourly range excludes overtime and bonuses which are not guaranteed)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs vital signs and documents in patient chart.
  • Administers oxygen; performs basic life support airway support, including ventilation, use of airway adjuncts, and jaw thrust.
  • Performs oral, endotracheal and tracheostomy suctioning.
  • Performs peripheral IV initiation.
  • Performs splinting and wound care including dressing and steri-strips.
  • Responsible for patient specimen collections which may include IV blood draws, nasal swabs, point of care monitoring, etc.
  • Performs suture/staple removal upon completion of department training and competency validation.
  • Performs 12-Lead EKGs.
  • Demonstrates effective use of clinical strategies to ensure patient and associate safety.
  • Collaborates with medicine, nursing and other health care professionals regarding plan of care, follow-up and evaluation for the patient and family
  • Assists with the following procedures and within ASH defined UC Tech scope of practice: suturing and pelvic exams.
  • Performs accurate and timely documentation of all tasks, observations, and procedures performed.
  • Performs UC clerical duties, including but not limited to, patient registration, order entry, and patient status changes, discharges, and transfers.
  • Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) for communication.

 Minimum Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or the equivalent

Certification: BLS, ACLS, PALS

Licensure: MA or EMT Certification - CO state or National Registry, (EMTI or EMTP preferred)

Experience, Training, Knowledge: Strong computer skills, minimum 2 years clinical experience.

 Physical Requirements

Requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to fifty (50) pounds; stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; standing and walking more than five (5) hours per day; visual acuity in order to correctly distinguish skin tone variations, evidence of IV infiltration, infection, also to read telemetry, blood pressure gauges, etc.; audio acuity, in order to correctly distinguish various body sounds, i.e. respiration’s, heart sounds, bowel sounds, also to discern sounds made by various types of machinery or equipment which would indicate dangerous or improper operation.

Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

ASH IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS REQUIREMENTS – Aligns with CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel 

  • Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
  • Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
  • Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization
  • Tuberculosis Screening - Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
