Medical Assistant (MA) – Gastroenterology

Raleigh Medical Group is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) to support our Gastroenterology practice. This role provides clinical support and coordinates patient care in a fast-paced specialty setting under the direction of physicians and advanced practice providers.
The Medical Assistant plays a key role in delivering an exceptional patient experience through clinical support, patient education, care coordination, and effective communication with patients and healthcare teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides patient care and administers medications and treatments as directed
- Rooms and prepares patients for examinations and procedures
- Assists providers with examinations, diagnostic procedures, treatments, and minor procedures
- Obtains and documents patient health histories, vital signs, and clinical information
- Collects biological samples and performs basic lab-related tasks
- Documents patient assessments and results in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Triages non-emergent patient calls using established protocols
- Coordinates procedures, referrals, and prior authorizations
- Processes prescription refill requests following provider direction
- Reinforces provider instructions and distributes patient education materials
- Assists with preparation and coordination of GI procedures
- Ensures compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and organizational policies
- Collaborates with clinical and operational staff
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Qualifications - Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one year of recent medical office experience utilizing an EHR system
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications - Preferred
- Experience in gastroenterology or other specialty clinic settings
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and reaching
- Ability to assist with repositioning, transferring, and ambulating patients safely
- Fine motor skills and visual acuity required
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
