Medical Records Clerk / Patient Care Technician

Morse Correctional Healthcare is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Records Clerk / Patient Care Technician to join our healthcare team at the Okaloosa County Jail.

This unique dual-role position combines direct patient care support with medical records management. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and committed to providing quality healthcare services in a correctional setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care Duties

  • Obtain and document vital signs
  • Assist nursing staff with patient care activities
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition
  • Assist with activities of daily living as directed
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized treatment areas
  • Stock medical supplies and equipment
  • Support infection control and patient safety initiatives

Medical Records Duties

  • Maintain and organize patient medical records
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and up to date
  • Scan, file, and manage electronic health records
  • Process medical record requests and documentation needs
  • Assist healthcare providers with record retrieval and chart management
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Participate in audits and quality improvement activities
  • Provide administrative support to the healthcare team

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • CNA, PCT, EMT, Medical Assistant, or related healthcare experience preferred
  • Previous medical records or healthcare administrative experience preferred
  • Knowledge of electronic health record systems
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment
