Description

Job Summary: The Mess attendant plays a vital role in supporting daily food service operations at the Mess Hall. This position ensures cleanliness, efficiency, and high standards of hygiene while assisting in the perpetration, serving and maintenance of dining facilities for personnel. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A wide variety of manual tasks in kitchen or dining area of a food activity will be required, which involves light to moderate physical effort and is done according to established procedures. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Set up food on serving lines, portion and serve food for individual servings in accordance with specifications and time requirements under direction of management staff.
  • Replenish cold bars, salad bars, pastry cabinets, condiments, juice dispensers, milk dispensers and set up dining rooms at an efficient pace.
  • Replace glassware, dishes, and silverware, as well as refill condiment containers.
  • Clean dining tables and service areas by removing dishes, glasses, and silverware and return to service areas using prescribed methods.
  • Operate electric dishwashing machine, loading and unloading, and/or washing flatware, dishes, glassware, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils by hand.
  • Maintain in a clean and sanitary condition: all equipment, utensils, work areas, tables, restrooms, exterior of buildings, etc. ensuring proper sanitization and cleaning processes and procedures are adhered to, and standards reached.
  • Empty trash containers and manage waste and recyclables according to pre-established standards and procedures.
  • Follow uniform requirements as prescribed in company rules and contract requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned based on operational needs.
  • Maintain the Five- Star Service standards for excellence. To include:
    1. Welcoming each and every customer, each and every time.
    2.  Focusing on personalized experience.
    3. Delivering fast and friendly service.
    4. Providing a great quality product.
    5. Thanking each customer by name and inviting them back.

 

Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required: High school diploma or GED; General Education; or three to six (6) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.

 

Minimum Qualifications Required: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. Prior experience in food services or hospitality is a plus. Ability to work in a fast- paces, team-oriented environment. Physical ability to lift, carry and stand for extended periods. A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player. Knowledge and able to articulate to people at all levels of an organization. Strong customer service skills preferred.

 

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: Certification from an approved sanitation program. Serve Safe and/or PIC (Navy Food Handlers Certification) within a 90 day period. Certificate of course completion and passing for State required Sexual Harassment Training within six (6) months of obtaining this position. 

 

Language Skills Required: Ability to perform aforementioned tasks in English, read and write. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, service requests, container labels, product information, operating and maintenance instructions, directions on cleaning chemicals and other materials and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and to convert standard time into military time. Ability to perform these operations using American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

 

Background Investigation: Must submit all facility/ installation access credentials, for identity verification purposes to receive DBIDS access card.
