Overview
The Mission Systems Engineer plays a critical role in the development of Orion Space Solutions’ products and programs. In this position, you will serve as a technical authority for systems engineering, leading the design and integration of complex spacecraft and payload systems. You will be responsible for driving systems design excellence across all phases of the product lifecycle for Orion Space Solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform systems engineering activities across all stages of product design, from customer requirements derivation through design, verification and validation (V&V), AI&T, and product launch.
- Derive and manage requirements at all levels of complex space systems, sub-systems, and components.
- Apply a holistic approach to designing, developing, evaluating and modifying end-to-end systems and system-oriented products through the entire lifecycle.
- Generate quantifiable requirements based on customer descriptions, system planning and design inputs, and acquisition logistics.
- Author and design verification and validation methods, documenting them through formal procedures.
- Translate high-level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop derived design implementation requirements.
- Establish and coordinate development of standards, practices, and procedures aligned with the product development timeline.
- Participate in component-level design (hardware and software) to ensure applicability to the system and maintain requirements traceability through compliance verification and validation.
- Reviews test plans and procedures to confirm alignment with contractual objectives and participate in testing activities to validate requirements.
- Participate in and contribute to Risk Review and Configuration Control Boards.
- Serve as the Systems Lead for a dedicated subsystem (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, etc.).
- Manage Interface Control Documentation, specifically payload-to-bus interfaces.
- Organize, prepare, and drive execution of customer-facing milestone design reviews including SRR, PDR and CDR.

Required
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering field plus 8-10 years, MS plus 6-8 years, or PhD plus 0-2 years of professional experience in systems engineering for high-reliability space and aerospace applications.
- Demonstrated extensive experience applying systems engineering development methods to complex product architectures.
- Proven background supporting programs and products across all phases of development from requirements derivation and initial development through sustainment.
- Proficiency with aerospace requirements management tools such as DOORS, Jama, or similar platforms.
Preferred
- Experience developing and implementing architectures for a variety of space and aerospace customers including DoW (national defense), NASA (civil space) and commercial sectors.

This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
