Multimedia Communications Coordinator II


Rothe is seeking a Multimedia Communications Coordinator II to support NASA Science Mission Directorate social media communications in support of the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency's enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications for NASA's OCIO and Office of Communications (OCOMM). From photographing rocket launches and recoveries, producing NASA TV segments, to information technology management, to using social media to share NASA's message, eMITS integrates services for NASA IT and provides NASA's communication to the outside world. Job Description:


The Multimedia Communications Coordinator II will manage and create social media content for the NASA Science Mission Directorate.

Functional Responsibilities:
  • Manage the editorial calendar for NASA Science Mission Directorate (SMD) social media accounts, ensuring accurate, timely, and strategically aligned content across platforms, campaigns, and mission milestones.
  • Develop, write, edit, and publish daily social media content for the @NASAScience ecosystem, maintaining NASA voice standards, scientific accuracy, and alignment with enterprise communications priorities.
  • Create and execute social media campaigns that leverage key NASA events, mission updates, scientific discoveries, and breaking news to drive visibility and engagement.
  • Produce multimedia content, including graphics, GIFs, short-form video, and platform specific assets, and coordinate the integration of images, animations, and video to support storytelling.
  • Monitor real time activity, audience engagement, trending topics, and scientific developments to identify posting opportunities and respond appropriately across platforms.
  • Serve as a central point of coordination for the SMD Social Media Community of Practice, supporting collaboration, consistency, and best practice sharing among mission directorates and center partners.
  • Ensure all social media products are accurate, compliant with NASA policies, and aligned with scientific leadership direction; interface regularly with SMD communications, scientists, mission teams, and executive staff.
  • Support live and virtual events, such as launches, briefings, science announcements, and campaign rollouts, by planning and executing social media coverage and coordinating real time updates.
  • Use analytics tools and performance data to evaluate content effectiveness, refine strategy, and report outcomes to SMD leadership.
  • Maintain strong situational awareness of NASA SMD programs, priorities, missions, and upcoming milestones to proactively shape the content plan.
  • Remote, hybrid, and onsite positions, the employee bears travel costs to the nearest NASA Center for badging and the issuance of NASA IT equipment.

Education and Experience:
 
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, multimedia production, or a related field.

Minimum Experience:
 
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in digital or social media communications, including hands on content creation, editorial planning, and campaign execution for large organizations, preferably in a science, government, or mission driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi platform editorial calendars for large organizations or mission driven programs.
  • Proven experience translating technical or scientific information into clear, engaging social media content.
  • Strong news judgment and ability to respond rapidly to breaking NASA events or real time opportunities.
  • Experience supporting social media operations for NASA, a federal science agency, or a similarly complex communications environment.
  • Familiarity with NASA SMD missions, programs, and processes to ensure accurate and timely content planning.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 requirements.
  • Excellent editorial judgment, copywriting skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national or U.S. permanent resident.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, OneDrive), SharePoint, and Box.
 
For a Remote or Hybrid position, the employee must have a reliable internet connection and be able to VPN into the NASA network to conduct work.
