Job Description
Position Summary:
The nurse practitioner will play a key role in the success of the Arlene Cooper Community Clinic by providing general and preventive care, conducting check-ups, treating illnesses, ordering laboratory tests, and prescribing medication for both the LGBTQIA+ and general communities.  With a focus on sexually transmitted infections, HIV, PrEP, and PEP, the nurse practitioner will work with a clinical staff to create and maintain a full-service clinic for the community.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
  • The employee shall meet the requirements of the Nevada State Board of Nursing and be licensed to practice medicine without restrictions within the State of Nevada.
  • Valid DEA number and authority to prescribe under the Nevada State Board of Nursing prescribing privileges.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Rapidly formulate a differential diagnosis from assessments conducted within the clinic setting.
  • Performs medical procedures according to privileges issued.
  • Interview patients to obtain history, perform physical examinations, order lab and other tests, prescribe medications and treatments.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for patients.
  • Provide health maintenance visits, evaluate for immunizations, and provide anticipatory guidance and referrals; perform contract and special physical examinations, including STIs (sexually transmitted infections), HIV, PEP, and PrEP planning, screening, and education.
  • Document and code all patient contact accurately and legibly in the medical record.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to develop clinical practice guidelines.
  • Coordinate care for patients and provide continuity in managed care for patients with pre-existing long-term problems.
  • Establish positive relationships with the local medical community and attend local medical society functions.
  • Make referrals for secondary and tertiary care.
  • Promote and enhance a work environment that is gender diverse, culturally affirming, and non-stigmatizing.
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and have reliable transportation.
Other Duties:

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods during patient assessments, procedures, and clinic operations.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, and reach as required to examine patients and access equipment.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry supplies, equipment, or materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform medical examinations, procedures, specimen collection, and operate medical instruments and equipment.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for keyboarding, documentation, and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Ability to see clearly (with or without corrective lenses) to read medical charts, labels, and screens, and to observe patient conditions.
  • Ability to hear clearly (with or without hearing aids) to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and external providers, including in person and by phone.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English to provide patient education, give instructions, and document clinical care.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to bodily fluids, sharp instruments, and patients with infectious diseases while following required safety and infection-control protocols.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions associated with clinical care and documentation.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and attention to detail in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by clinic operations.
Licensure and/or Certification:
  • Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, as identified in qualifications above, including a valid DEA number.
  • Current CPR certification
  • Valid Nevada Driver’s License
  • Must be able to meet and maintain current credentialing and privilege requirements
