Technical Knowledge/Job Summary

  • Read production schedule, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, and/or distributed
  • Knows how to operate and troubleshoot the various types of equipment used in the shipyard
  • Identify hazards, safe out equipment, and write safe work permits.
  • Will be required to work aloft (on scaffold or on manlifts) and in confined spaces. 
  • On site training is provided.

Job Proficiency

  • Loads, unloads, moves, stacks and stages products and materials using a fork lift, pallet jack, clamp truck, cherry picker, crane, or other power equipment
  • Positions forks, cherry picker, crane, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials and transports load to designated area
  • Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device
  • Pulls and prepares product for shipment, ensuring that the exact number and type of product is loaded
  • Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code
  • Perform daily inspections, maintenance, and re-fueling of all equipment
  • Determine what, if any, parts or equipment need service beyond shipyard personnel capabilities

Culture and Collaboration

  • Follow all shipyard safety policies, including proper use of PPE, fire prevention, and confined space protocols.
  • Assist in the training and development of junior operators
  • Collaborate and communicate with welders, metal fitters, pipefitters, electricians, and other trades as required to complete vessel construction or repair and to maintain efficient work flows
  • Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced ship production environment
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward customers and represent Saronic professionally
  • Make a personal commitment and be accountable for HSE results, driving toward the achievement of defined goals
