Position Purpose: The Optician is responsible for extending excellent customer service to our patients through the sale of quality eye-wear that fits the needs of each individual patient.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses.
- Demonstrate compassion and interest when listening and responding to patient needs/complaints.
- Obtain a patient's previous record or verify a prescription with the examining doctor.
- Measure patient's bridge & eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, etc.
- Prepare work orders and instructions for lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.
- Maintain records of patient prescriptions and work orders.
- Submit patient insurance information in a timely manner.
- Verify Prescriptions and Eyeglass orders for final inspection.
- Adjust & Repair eyewear (heat, shape, or bend frames to fit patients).
- Instruct patients on how to wear and care for eyeglasses.
- Arrange and maintain optical displays.
- Travel to other Gailey dispensaries, as assigned.

- ABO certification desired, but not required. Gailey Eye clinic will provide study materials and pay for Opticians to test for the ABO twice. Opticians who receive ABO certification while employed at Gailey are eligible to receive $1/hour raise.
Physical Demands:
This position requires incumbent to sit at desk and/or stand for long hours during regularly scheduled work hours. This job may include, but are not limited to sitting, reaching, stooping, crouching, kneeling, climbing, twisting, hearing and repetitive motions. The ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Must have reliable transportation and be able to drive/travel as needed.
Working Conditions and Environment:
Incumbent works in a temperature controlled medical office environment.
Pay:
The starting range for this position is $17.00 - $19.74/hr. The Optician position is also eligible to earn a monthly incentive bonus. Please note this wage information is a general guideline only.
