Description
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Controls patient flow for physician. Greets patient and escorts them from the waiting room to exam rooms, x-ray waiting, or cast room
- Monitoring of physician schedules as appropriate to ensure adequate patient flow and preparation for clinic
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies for physician assessment
- Prepares injections as ordered by the physician
- Assists physicians in preparing for examinations and minor procedures
- Prepare patient for examination, including appropriate clothing, positioning, and supplies necessary to complete patient exam
- Obtain and document patient medical history including reason for visit, and any other pertinent information related to treatment prior to physician exam. O
- Obtain X-rays as indicated by physician order prior to physician exam
- Prepares medical record information, including X-Ray films for physician review prior to physician exam
- Participates in minor procedures such as suture removal, dressing changes, cast or splint and/or DME application
- Obtains prior authorization for procedures, equipment, and medication, if appropriate
- Schedules tests and off site diagnostic procedures when necessary per physicians’ order
- Communicates physician referral requests to appropriate staff for processing
- Ensures timely communication of patient needs, concerns, test results to physicians for appropriate change in the patients plan of care
- Ensures timely communication with patient regarding plan of care and response to questions or concerns
- Functions in the Care Coordinator role as needed
- Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
- Maintains compliance with infection control policies and procedures
- Performs patient education when appropriate including oral and written education related to diagnosis, procedures, and/or medications
- Replenishes supplies—cleans exam room after each patient per infection control guidelines and stocks exam room at end of each day
- Communicates supply shortages as well as other clinical needs to Clinical Manager or designee
- Ensures that laboratory and other diagnostic test results are obtained and communicated to physician to ensure appropriate and timely physician intervention. All pending results are obtained prior to patients next clinic visit
- Ensures all documentation accurately reflects the patient encounter and plan of care
Other Responsibilities:
- Follows all applicable department and practice policies and procedures
- Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA privacy and confidentiality guidelines established by the practice
- Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions
- Computer input of patient information
- Participates in mandatory staff functions as directed by Clinical manager (may include overtime)
- Performs all other tasks and projects delegated or assigned by the Clinical Manager
- Maintains a pleasant and cooperative demeanor while performing all duties
- Maintains compliance with continuing education requirements to maintain current certifications, licensure, etc…
Typical Physical Demands
Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients. Involves standing, walking, bending, and stooping. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Employee will work under stressful conditions, and work irregular hours at times. Employee will be involved in procedures that could expose the employee to potential hazards including but not limited to blood and body fluids
Typical Working Condition
Employee will have frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Requirements
Educational Requirements:
- High school degree or equivalent required
- CMA Certification, or other equivalent education, certification, licensure, or related degree preferred
- Medical training and/or experience in casting or splinting preferred
Qualifications and Experience:
- Knowledge of lab/diagnostic tests and handling paperwork
- Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications
- Knowledge of practice management and word processing software
- Working knowledge of managed care basics
- Current CPR Certification
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent documentation skills
