About the Department
The City of La Crosse is seeking to hire a part-time Parks & Forestry Coordinator in the Parks & Recreation Department. Core hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Position is expected to work up to 30 hours per week with flexibility available within operating hours. Starting wage is between $15.00 to $20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. Position is limited term and does not acquire benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow departmental procedures regarding phone etiquette, record keeping, and paperwork filing procedures
- Communicate with residents about boulevard trees, park maintenance, memorial tree planting, ash tree removal and replacement, and general forestry concerns
- Input parks and forestry information into Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint programs
- Maintain healthy working relationships with office staff, Parks Maintenance crew, and supervisors
- Purchase supplies for department as needed
- Contact local contractors about projects in parks throughout the City of La Crosse
- Coordinate activities for individuals who need to complete community service hours
- Assist Deputy Director with daily operations
- Assist Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department in any capacity necessary
- Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed
- Ability to work with a computer, including but not limited to e-mail, GIS Mapping, Internet, Microsoft Office
- Attend meetings as needed, including Board of Park Commissioners, Neighborhood Associations, Board of Public Works, and City Council
