About the Department
Performs various administrative and clerical duties to include reception, customer service, and recordkeeping for the Training Division.
Position Duties
- Compiles, certifies, and prepares training documents for law enforcement officer recertification.
- Records training data for all employees and reserve deputies in the Records Management System (RMS). Data is pulled from various sources, including course rosters, memos, tests, documentation forms, inspection forms, critiques, and training certificates from outside training classes. All papers are scanned and saved to the server, and attached to records in RMS when appropriate. Files all training records. All training record hardcopies are saved for three years.
- Maintains the Excel spreadsheet for officer certification; includes deputy names, certification date, and date recertification paperwork is due to the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Fifty days prior to recertification, views the officer’s training record in RMS to determine if it is complete or if the officer needs more training. If complete, creates the recertification paperwork. If it is not, notifies officers of deficiency and monitors the officer’s progress.
- Summarizes block training critiques for management staff. Score responses using Excel, create graphs, and email.
- Teaches Bloodborne Pathogen class to law enforcement and corrections officers. Develops a PowerPoint presentation based on the latest information available from the OSHA, CDC, SC DHEC, and LCSD events. Prepares a test to give as part of this training.
- Teaches Personal Protective Equipment Field Kit class. Develops a PowerPoint presentation based on the lesson plan and contents of the kit. Performs a respirator fit-test for officers assigned a respirator.
- Teaches other in-service training, as assigned, and assists with training classes.
- Answers the telephone; screens callers; provides information as requested or forwards calls to appropriate staff person; takes messages as necessary; greets and assists department visitors.
- Performs general administrative duties as required, including processing daily mail, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, and maintaining filing systems.
- Coordinates meetings and meeting space.
- Performs other similar duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge:
- Administrative procedures;
- Recordkeeping procedures;
- Microsoft Office;
- Written and verbal communication via in-person, phone or email contact;
- Attention to detail;
- Data Entry and Reporting.
- High School diploma or equivalent, with at least 1 year of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Other Qualifications
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects.
- Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, fingering, standing, walking and repetitive motions.

There are multiple coverage plans available for the employee to choose from, depending on his/her personal coverage needs. Basic coverage is provided at a minimal cost to the employee. The County of Lexington provides a Wellness Center for its employees and their dependents who are covered under county health insurance. The staff of the Health and Wellness Center is licensed to diagnose, treat and prescribe for a wide variety of common illness and injuries at no cost to the employee and their covered dependents, when participating in the Gold or Silver Health Insurance Plan. Employee and Family $11.80The County of Lexington provides life insurance for its employees. Basic coverage is provided at no cost to the employee, with a benefit amount at 1.5 times the employee's basic annual earnings, up to $50,000.
Additional coverage on the employee or his or her dependents is available and can be paid for through payroll deduction.
RetirementAll full time employees of the county participate in the South Carolina Retirement System or the South Carolina Police Officer’s Retirement System.
Deferred CompensationEmployees are eligible to participate in the South Carolina Public Employees Deferred Compensation Plan, 401K or 457. The amount deposited is determined by the employee and participation is optional. This is a tax-deferred savings program and is handled automatically by payroll deduction.
OvertimeEmployees who are eligible for overtime are paid overtime at the rate of 1.5 times his or her regular rate of pay for time worked. Overtime will be calculated at any hours worked over 40 hours in one week for non-exempt personnel.
Holiday Pay
The County of Lexington observes 13 holidays. When a holiday falls on a normally scheduled workday, the employee will earn holiday pay.
Annual Leave and Sick LeaveAnnual leave is accrued at the rate of 10 days per year for employees with less than five years of service with the county; 15 days for 5-10 years of service; and 20 days for 10 or more years of service. Sick leave is accrued at 12 days per year.
Education Incentive PayEmployees receive educational incentive pay for completing degrees in pre-approved courses of study at approved accredited institutions.
Gym Membership
Gym memberships are available to all employees at a highly discounted rate to the employee, made possible through the efforts of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation.
