Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers is seeking an experienced Patient Access Manager for our multi-specialty oncology practice. In this role, you’ll lead front-end financial operations and drive excellence across Patient Financial Services—ensuring accurate processes, strong team performance, and a positive patient financial experience.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Performance
- Oversee Benefit Counseling, Insurance Verification, Patient Assistance, and Patient Access teams
- Ensure accurate insurance verification to prevent denials
- Audit workflows, production, and establish benchmarks/KPIs
- Monitor collections of copays, deductibles, and patient balances at time of service
- Maintain accurate fee schedules and cost-of-care calculations
- Track physician adjustments and report key metrics to leadership
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors, leads, and staff
- Train teams and ensure processes are accurate and regularly reviewed
- Oversee performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions
- Promote accountability, productivity, and a high-performance culture
Quality & Patient Experience
- Ensure financial responsibility is communicated clearly and compassionately to patients
- Support patients by utilizing appropriate financial assistance programs
- Maintain compliance with billing regulations, policies, and legal requirements
- Drive a customer-focused approach across all patient interactions
Collaboration & Improvement
- Partner with Operations and leadership to address uncollectible accounts
- Improve financial workflows and patient access processes
- Leverage analytics, dashboards, and audits to drive continuous improvement
Qualifications
- 10+ years of medical billing experience
- 5+ years of healthcare leadership experience managing PFS staff
- Strong knowledge of accounts receivable, EOBs, insurance denials, and benefits
- Experience with patient assistance programs and financial counseling
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding and medical terminology
- Understanding of oncology services, infusions, and specialty care billing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, reporting, and analytics
- Experience with performance dashboards, auditing, and process improvement
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
