Job Description




To assist with providing excellent client support to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Will serve as initial contact for clients and referring veterinarians, facilitate proper scheduling of appointments and act as a liaison between client, referring veterinarian and VTH personnel. Will assist all support staff in daily client interactions as needed. Will serve as a contact for emergencies and facility issues within the building, which will require interacting with Virginia Tech Police and other outside agencies. Supports the Large and Small Animal Patient Receiving and Medical Records in proper registration and medial record processing. Must be able to calmly and quickly handle various emergencies, contacting the proper personnel for assistance. General office duties will include filing, faxing, copying, scanning and uploading forms. Will provide general, infrequent after hours support as needed via the telephone. This person must have good communication skillsbeing able to communicate well with referring veterinarians, clients, faculty, staff and students. Maintains a calm and pleasant demeanor at all times. Must be very adept at multitasking. This position will serve many areas. The goal of this relationship is to ensure that the patient, client and referring veterinarian will receive optimum care and attention. This position is considered essential personnel and it is necessary for employee to be at work if the University is closed due to inclement weather.






Required Qualifications




Previous experience working with medical records and knowledge of medical records principles and practices; Previous experience performing diagnostic and procedure coding; Excellent computer skills, including experience in word processing, database entry, and other computer information systems; Excellent communication skills; Knowledge of medical terminology; Excellent problemsolving skills with the ability to troubleshoot difficult issues in medical records management.






Preferred Qualifications




Courses in Medical Record Management, Medical Administration, Medical terminology, diagnostic coding or equivalent training.
