Payroll Accountant

Huntsville AL

Purpose of Position:

This role is responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing for multiple states, payroll accounting reconciliations, tax compliance, and supporting audits and financial reporting activities.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential):

 

·         Process weekly and biweekly payrolls for employees across multiple states.  Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and labor laws.

·         Maintain payroll records, deductions, garnishments, benefits, and timekeeping data accurately.

·         Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, including wages, taxes, benefits, and accrued liabilities.

·         Prepare and review payroll journal entries and account reconciliations.

·         Coordinate payroll tax filings and resolve payroll tax discrepancies.

·         Manage employee payroll changes including new hires, terminations, promotions, and direct deposit updates.

·         Review, process, and reconcile employee expense reports in accordance with company policies and procedures.

·         Collaborate with Human Resources and Accounting to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.

·         Assist with year-end payroll activities including W-2 processing, audits, and providing documentation as requested.

·         Maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee information.

·         Identify opportunities for payroll process improvements and increased efficiency.

·         Willingness to provide cross-functional support within the accounting department as business needs require.

·         Serve as a positive contributor to the team by supporting colleagues and effectively executing projects and assignments as needed.

·         Perform other ad hoc projects and administrative duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Experience:

·         Minimum of 2-5 years of payroll accounting experience.

·         Multi-state payroll processing experience is preferred.

·         Experience with payroll and accounting systems is required.

·         Experience with UKG and/or Unanet is preferred.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook is required.

 

Education:

·          Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field preferred

·         Frequent use of computers, keyboards, telephones, and office equipment

·         Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
