Description

Summary of the position


Pipefitters are responsible for assembling and installing pipe systems, pipe supports, and connections to HVAC coils and equipment. Installs pipe for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, and industrial production and processing systems.


Pipefitters work directly with welders, pipefitter helpers, and other trade workers to ensure piping systems are installed per contract drawings, leak free, and with high integrity.


Responsibilities & Duties


  • Coordinate with Foreman to configure pipe system layout.
  • Order proper pipes and other materials.
  • Select supports, hangers, and anchors.
  • Assemble materials at job site.
  • Select type and size of pipe.
  • Cut, thread, and hammer pipes according to pipe system specs.
  • Use saws and cutting torches to craft proper pipe sizes.
  • Turn off steam, water, or gas from pipe sections and make safe.
  • Secure pipes to walls and fixtures using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
  • Secure pipes to coils, pumps, and equipment.
  • Repair and maintain pipe systems and components.
  • Resolve problems such as obstructions or holes

 

Requirements

Education & Trades Qualifications


Essential:


  • None

Desirable:


  • High school diploma or GED are desired
  • Written communication skills help the Pipefitter to promote to higher positions
  • English communication is preferred
  • Shop skills, welding, mathematics

Work Experience & Skills


Essential:


  • Blueprint reading
  • Layout and hand drafting / sketching
  • Threading, grinding, grooving, plasma cutting, and gas arc cutting
  • Brazing and soldering
  • Valve installation and repair
  • Rigging

Desirable:


  • CAD drafting
  • Computer skills such as word processing and email communication
  • Construction safety training courses

Essential Job Requirements
