Job Description
Still family-owned and operated, QUIKRETE® has grown from a small business founded on innovation into a construction materials supply chain leader designed for professionals or homeowners. As a vertically integrated company, our Heavy Construction Materials segment includes our aggregates, asphalt, cement, and ready-mix divisions. Our Consumer and Construction Products segment is made up of our packaged and bulk concrete and concrete repair products for construction professionals and homeowners.

We are looking for a Plant Controller to join our team in Davenport, IA .  The Plant Controller with Quikrete Heavy Construction Materials, key member of the Plant Leadership Team. This role owns plant-level financial performance and partners with operations to drive EBITDA improvement, cost discipline, inventory accuracy, capital effectiveness, and strong internal controls.

About the Role 


Responsibilities:



  • EBITDA & Financial Performance Ownership

    • Partner with the Plant Manager to drive plant-level EBITDA, margin improvement, and cash performance.

    • Lead development of the annual operating budget and rolling forecasts, including production costs, fixed costs, and capital expenditures.

    • Own and communicate variance analysis to Budget, Forecast, and Prior Year across volume, price, mix, usage, rate, and overhead absorption drivers.

    • Identify risks and opportunities impacting plant profitability and recommend corrective operational actions.

    • Support cost-reduction and continuous improvement initiatives through financial modeling and scenario analysis.



  • Cost Accounting & Financial Reporting

    • Lead the month-end close process for the plant, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

    • Ensure proper accounting of production costs, material consumption, labor absorption, and overhead allocation.

    • Maintain and update standard costs to reflect current material inputs, labor assumptions, and overhead rates.

    • Analyze manufacturing variances and partner with operations to drive corrective action.

    • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company accounting policies, and internal control standards.



  • Inventory Governance & Working Capital

    • Own inventory reconciliation and accuracy across raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, spare parts, and operating supplies.

    • Lead physical inventory counts and cycle count programs; investigate and resolve discrepancies.

    • Monitor slow-moving, obsolete, and excess inventory exposure.

    • Drive working capital discipline across inventory and payables.



  • Capital & Asset Management

    • Oversee plant capital expenditures to ensure proper authorization, tracking, and accounting treatment.

    • Monitor capital project spend against approved budgets and forecasts.

    • Ensure accurate fixed asset records and depreciation.

    • Support long-range capital planning and return-on-investment analysis.



  • Accounts Payable Supervision

    • Supervise plant-level Accounts Payable activities to ensure timely and accurate invoice processing and vendor payments.

    • Maintain strong controls over invoice approvals, coding accuracy, and compliance with purchasing policies.

    • Partner with operations and procurement to resolve discrepancies and improve payment processes.



  • Leadership & Compliance

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to plant leadership, strengthening financial acumen across operations.

    • Maintain strong internal controls and support audit and compliance requirements.

    • Uphold safety, integrity, and ethical standards consistent with company values.

    • Develop and mentor accounting or administrative staff as applicable.

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to plant leadership, strengthening financial acumen across operations.




About You



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and GAAP.

  • Demonstrated experience partnering with operations leadership.

  • Experience supervising accounting or clerical staff preferred.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.

  • Experience in cement, aggregates, heavy manufacturing, or industrial operations.

  • Experience supporting multi-site or regional operations.
