Job Description

Job Summary

Tends and operates press brakes that bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and parts. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material

requirements.

  • Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
  • Positions work piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die.
  • Pushes button(s) or depresses pedal to activate machine.
  • Performs operator required safety inspections on a schedule determined by the use

of the machine.

  • Performs first piece inspection and random inspections per standard operating

procedures set forth by the Quality Assurance department.

  • Unloads processed parts from machine and then places the parts on pallets, or in

tubs or racks hand. Larger parts may require the use of a gib/overhead crane.

  • Removes scrap material from machine places scrap material in scrap containers.
  • Maintains an accurate count of parts produced.
  • Attaches identifying work order with each pallet, tub, or basket.
  • Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work

pieces.

  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
  • May be required to operate forklifts as specifically designated.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Operating procedures for a press brake and its components
  • Operating procedures for bander
  • Operating procedures for overhead cranes and rigging equipment
  • Safety and inspection requirements for overhead cranes
  • Operating procedures for forklifts
  • Procedures for basic rigging equipment
  • Basic four function math including fractions and decimals
  • Reading of equipment instructions, work documentation
  • Data entry into computer applications
  • Use and calibration check of precision measurement and testing tools
  • Use of basic hand tools and pneumatic tools
  • Basic safety practices for industrial equipment
  • Basic metal industry and company specific terminology
  • Company policies and employee handbook issues
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 procedures

Qualifications, Certifications, and Experience: 

  • High school education or equivalent preferred – can be offset by acceptable related experience
  • Experience sufficient to have demonstrated proficiency in job requirements of  Press Brake Operator; prefer apprenticeship under the direction of experienced and competent Press brake operating personnel
  • Certified training pursuant to OSHA industrial truck (forklift) regulations
