Job Description: PQE-Product Quality Engineer

Location: Trenton, MI

Shift: 6am-4:30pm

Overview

 The Product Quality Engineer directs all inspection and quality functions to ensure compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and industry regulations. Core responsibilities are activities to support robust manufacturing processes and continuous improvement. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing quality management systems in manufacturing
  • Establishes proper quality control practices
  • Evaluates quality systems for deficiencies
  • Implement improvements to enhance quality systems 
  • Creating and maintaining company documentation, such as quality manuals, procedures and work instructions
  • Review contracts, drawings, routings, purchase orders, shop instructions and various related production and development plans for quality requirements
  • Assists qualification of new manufactured quality products/NPI.
  • Conducts/coordinates measurement evaluations and/or tests (FAI, Gage R&R, MSA)
  • Apply statistical process control (SPC) tools and methods
  • Collaborates with design engineers to assess the critical product characteristics that will be measured
  • Develop training to improve awareness of quality control issues
  • Determines the metrics/product characteristics that will be inspected
  • Determines the methods/devices that will be used for inspection
  • Supervise, support, instruct and develop/train inspectors
  • Investigate all customer complaints and issues.
  • Work with appropriate representatives to eliminate defects using tools such as root cause and corrective actions, lean techniques, A3s, counter measures, six sigma, poka-yoke and/or error proofing
  • Participate as Material Review Board member to review and disposition Non-Conforming Material as suitable
  • Support quality goals and objectives along with activities to identify, explain and resolve quality issues.
  • Coordinates and leads appropriate Nadcap Audits
  • Participates in Quality System Audits (AS9100/AS13100)
  • Participates in Internal Audits

 

 

Qualifications

  • Skilled in problem solving and analysis
  • Capable of reading and interpreting drawings
  • Able to use and understand GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Ability to use all handheld and surface plate measurement devices
  • Computer skills (including MS Office suite of products)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Works well under pressure
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in a related field preferred.
  • Ability to pass vision examination to customer and industry standards.
  • Ability to use an enhanced visual inspection microscope to customer and industry standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
  • Proficient with basic inspection tools and measuring equipment.
  • Manufacturing floor environment; exposure to noise, machinery, and safety-sensitive areas.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • May require standing/sitting for extended periods and lifting up to 25 lbs.
