Smith Ironworks is an AISC Certified Fabricator of structural and miscellaneous steel, serving commercial, industrial, and heavy-civil clients throughout Southern California and Nevada. Our shop operates using a Tekla PowerFab workflow, and accurate production data is a key part of how we schedule, fabricate, and ship work efficiently. We are looking for a Production Control Manager to help manage production data, support shop workflow, and ensure information moves accurately from detailing to the fabrication floor.
Key Responsibilities
- Import bills of material and CNC/KISS files from detailing into Tekla PowerFab
- Build combines and nests to optimize material usage, including stock and remnants
- Generate and manage routings, travelers, barcodes, and shop paperwork
- Advance items through workstations, including saw, fit, weld, paint, and shipping
- Maintain accurate real-time production status updates
- Manage steel inventory, stock levels, and material allocation based on job requirements
- Coordinate with detailing, purchasing, and production management regarding releases, shortages, and job priorities
- Run production, backlog, and labor reports for management
- Identify and communicate bottlenecks or production concerns early
- Maintain PowerFab data integrity, including workstations, sequences, statuses, and job setup
- Support shipping by preparing load lists, bundle tags, and delivery documentation
Required Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience in steel fabrication production control, scheduling, or shop data management
- Hands-on experience with Tekla PowerFab/EPM production module required
- Ability to read structural drawings, shop drawings, and bills of material
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication flow, including cutting, fitting, welding, finishing, and shipping
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Strong data accuracy and follow-through
- Ability to coordinate effectively with detailing, purchasing, management, and shop personnel
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience administering or configuring PowerFab, including workstations, statuses, or user setup
- Familiarity with Tekla Structures or SDS/2 detailing output
- Knowledge of AISC and AWS D1.1 standards
- Experience with nesting, optimization, and material management
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
