Job Summary:


The David L. Walters Department of Music at Jacksonville State University seeks candidates for a Sound- Lighting Technician. The successful candidate will operate the sound booth in Mason Hall and the forthcoming Randy Owen Center for the Performing Arts for department music performances at venues on and off-campus. In addition, this employee will manage the recording lab and the Apple computer lab in the department. Teaching courses such as Live Sound and Recording, Effects, and Mastering may be assigned based on the department's needs. The department offers a minor in music technology and anticipates a future Music Industry concentration.






Job Duties and Responsibilities



  • Perform in-person sound/lighting and live streaming of concerts and recitals of the department, including recording in Logic Pro and live-sound reinforcement if necessary.

  • Manage technical rehearsals through collaboration with ensemble and opera directors.

  • Manage sound and lighting technical needs during set up, performances, recording sessions, and striking of equipment as well as troubleshooting as needed.

  • Record all student recitals and ensembles with attention given to set up, mixing, video recording, and editing.

  • Maintain an inventory of all audio and lighting equipment as well as maintenance of lighting and sound systems and equipment in the sound booth, recording lab, and computer lab.

  • Oversee the training and supervision of student workers and student employees.

  • Teach courses as assigned within the required discipline.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the department head.






Required Minimum Qualifications:



  • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience operating live sound , such as concerts, recitals, musical theatre productions, etc., in performing arts venues, concert halls, or recital halls

  • Proficiency with digital mixing consoles (e.g., Behringer X32/M32, Yamaha CL/QL, Allen & Heath)

  • Working knowledge of gain structure, EQ, compression, and effects in a live environment

  • Professional Live Sound Reinforcement experience

  • Studio editing experience in Logic Pro and Adobe Premier

  • Professional recording studio experience






Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or a related field
