Night Shift Production Manager

Machine Specialties, LLC (MSI) is a leading contract machining and metal finishing company that designs and manufactures sophisticated, cost-effective solutions to meet our clients' most demanding challenges. Our company is located in Whitsett, NC, about 8 miles outside of Greensboro, NC.
We are looking for a responsible and energetic Night Shift Production Manager. This is a full-time, exempt position that will report to our Day Shift Production Manager.
The ideal candidate will have an ownership mindset and strong interpersonal skills. They will demonstrate our company values and excel in communication. The goal of this role is to continually push for better safety, quality, and production results; cascading this drive and expectation to your reports and their reports.
General Responsibilities:
- Motivate, support, develop, and provide guidance to production team.
- Ensure all safety, cleanliness, and health standards are met to keep MSI accident-free.
- Agree, monitor, cascade, and regularly review KPI's and Performance Targets to meet company objectives-by shift, month, and year --- with Team Members, Peers, and MSI Leadership.
- Set productivity goals for each manufacturing team and leader.
- Cascade and drive to the 'schedule' through every level of your organization-without compromising quality or MSI procedures.
- Establish a balance between increased productivity and reduced costs of manufacturing operations, consistent with company objective 'make it right the first time' and KPI 'scorecard.'
- Develop workflow policies and procedures that consistently and intentionally improve efficiency without compromising safety or quality.
- Look ahead at the schedule and communicate regularly with upper management regarding problems or issues impacting production.
- Evaluate machine resources and supplies/consumables spend to ensure continued production, minimal downtime, and optimal cost efficiency.
- Ensure adequate scheduling of staff. Ensure your teams are supported during their work hours.
Daily Production Responsibilities
- Work through your people!
- Hold everyone on your team to the standard of "make it right the first time."
- Ensure all team members understand their tasks and priorities for the day. Flow these priorities to your direct reports and let them cascade down.
- Drive to the schedule/ship list.
- Raise obstacles at the production handoff meeting.
- Coordinate weekend hours needed to support the schedule.
- Ensure each work area is clean and organized. Show your team members what is expected and then hold them to that standard. Empower your reports to flow the same expectations down.
- Constantly be walking the line checking in with each report.
- Regular check-ins will allow your team to operate independently while also knowing that help is always nearby.
- Monitor machine utilization while walking around and through monitoring Harmoni.
- Ensure correct clock ins, scrap counts, direct/indirect time.
- Empower team members to raise their hand when things aren't right.
- Get travelers, programs, op drawings, etc. updated when they have issues.
- Coordinate with tooling department, tool crib, material purchasing, maintenance, and scheduler to ensure your team have the tools they need to do their job.
- Coordinate with day shift manager. Communicate priorities and open issues. Fill in machine assignment sheet outside the production office.
- Send daily email of night shift production efficiency.
- Make sure your team knows what's next.
- Review upcoming schedule to see if there are issues or opportunities.
- Conduct performance reviews.
- Assist with interviewing candidates to gage experience, technical ability, cultural fit, and interest.
- Other duties as needed.
Daily Personnel Responsibilities:
- Hold daily team meetings for your direct reports and cycle through their team meetings.
- Empower team members to make decisions at an appropriate level.
- Connect with each team member multiple times per day.
- Identify high potential team members and look for opportunities to promote growth.
- Clearly define expectations and quickly communicate any deviations between performance and expectations.
- Manage vacation time amongst your team. If key personnel or several team members will be out at the same time, raise the issue to upper management.
- Monitor weekly hours and indirect time.
- Enforce MSI policies. Phone time, punctuality, attendance, dress code, etc.
- Monitor your attitude. Remember that the mood you bring to work will affect your team. Work on bringing calm and positivity to the team.
- Always be cultivating your replacement. You can't advance until there is someone to take your place.
- Other duties as needed.
Requirements:

- Working knowledge ERP software (Epicor preferred).
- 10+ years relevant manufacturing/management experience
- High School Diploma, Degree in Technical Field, or equivalent/relevant experience.
