Purpose:
The incumbent is a staff level position and will report to the Plant Manager. The incumbent will maintain positive working relationships with other departments and site team members. The incumbent will maintain positive working relationships with all corporate functions (planning, finance, safety, quality, engineering, R&D, ME, etc.).
The incumbent will promote safety in the workplace and ensure safe work procedures are implemented and maintained to provide a safe working environment for all employees. Responsible for supporting and enforcing Company and Plant policies.
The primary role of the position is to provide leadership and direction for all the production operations for the Laurinburg facility, primarily at the hot end.
Coordinate, direct and manage a group of teams to ensure that area group targets and objectives are met.
Essential Functions:
- Establish management systems in the Hot End to ensure manufacturing process stability, line yields, quality, throughput, and costs are at world class levels and continuously improving
- Ensure that a commitment to ‘Customer First’ is embedded within the culture of the department
- Ensure the current NSG business strategy and company objectives are communicated, understood, and applied to operations within the department
- Ensure application of appropriate problem-solving techniques (i.e. the eight-step problem solving model, 5-Why) on all significant manufacturing issues to ensure that production problems are resolved in the least amount of time, systems are established to eliminate reoccurrence of the production problems, and process improvement initiatives are implemented on a timely basis
- Develop talent within process improvers and team leaders for succession planning, ensuring effective training plans are developed and executed for all employees
- Utilize all available resources (Pilkington NA Manufacturing, Group Engineering, R&D, external, etc.) to ensure that the Laurinburg Plant implements the best demonstrated practices on all critical manufacturing processes in the department
- Review daily/weekly records of process capability, manufacturing loss sources, quality and scheduling needs with the other production team members.
- Maintain positive relations with the workforce and actively utilize the employee involvement process in all manufacturing operations
- Develop manufacturing standards for department operation and guidance
- Responsible for auditing safety systems, 5S, production processes, productivity, and maintenance effectiveness
- Evaluate, together with the area managers and process improvers, future equipment upgrades and capital investment requirements
- Work with the maintenance and engineering department in the development of new methods, processes, and equipment necessary to reduce cost, improve operating efficiency (OCS / Transformation), and meet present as well as future product design; and actively participate on scheduled furnace rebuilds and review suggestions for improved designs to secure longer “campaign life”.
- Support, champion, and mentor continuous improvement projects
- Establish and maintain effective internal and external customer relationships.
- Support the Engineering and Maintenance manager in building effective maintenance processes for production to include, but not limited to: Preventative maintenance routines, equipment BOMs, storeroom spare parts inventories, Complete Isolation (LOTO) routines, maintenance technician training material.

Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering is required.
- Supervisory and leadership experience in a continuous manufacturing setting
- 5 to 10 years manufacturing experience
- 2 to 4 years of experience in the glass industry
- Required to have a working knowledge of all activities in all areas of manufacturing from batch operations through annealing.
- Excellent interpersonal, coaching and communication skills
- Ability to facilitate groups in an employee involvement environment
- Excellent working knowledge of SPC, process capability, and quality systems
- Basic computer skills-Excel, Word, PowerPoint
