Production Supervisor – Large Pack IBC & Reconditioning IBC: Manufacturing Operations
The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading and directing daily manufacturing operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC totes). This position oversees production personnel, coordinates operational activities, monitors performance metrics, and ensures compliance with all safety, quality, environmental, and production requirements.
The Production Supervisor supports all aspects of the manufacturing process, including bottle production, cage manufacturing, assembly operations, packaging, material handling, maintenance coordination, quality assurance, and employee development. This position works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Shipping, and Human Resources to achieve plant objectives while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
The Production Supervisor must demonstrate strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, decision-making skills, and the ability to effectively communicate expectations while maintaining a productive and engaged workforce.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Safety
• Follow and enforce all Plant Safety Rules and Regulations and participate in safety observations, discussions, near-miss reporting, incident investigations, and continuous safety improvement initiatives
• Ensure employees utilize proper PPE at all times
• Conduct routine safety inspections and audits to identify and correct unsafe conditions
• Lead safety discussions during startup meetings and shift communications
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards
• Promote a culture of safety ownership and accountability throughout the facility
Quality
• Responsible for ensuring quality manufactured IBC totes are produced in accordance with customer specifications and company quality standards
• Ensure all quality procedures, inspections, and documentation requirements are followed
• Monitor production processes and address quality concerns as they arise
• Compliance with ISO 9001 requirements
• Complete and review Manufacturing and Quality documentation accurately
• Communicate internally regarding deviations, nonconforming materials, customer concerns, or production issues
• Support 6S and Lean Manufacturing practices
Environmental
• Verify compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations
• Complete required environmental and operational reports as necessary
• Support environmental stewardship initiatives and waste reduction efforts
Primary Production Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and training to accomplish production objectives for all employees regarding Safety, Quality, Production, Packaging, and Maintenance
• Coordinate production activities with other departments to ensure production goals and objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner
• Work with the Operations Team to ensure vacancies are covered for planned and unplanned absences
• Establish and monitor shift performance standards for safety, quality, efficiency, and production
• Lead employee startup meetings and communicate plant objectives, safety concerns, quality expectations, and operational priorities
• Enter production data accurately into company systems to monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including efficiencies, downtime, inventory, scrap, labor utilization, and overall production performance
• Update communication boards to keep production personnel informed regarding safety, quality, production, and efficiency metrics
• Work with team members to improve efficiencies, minimize labor overtime, reduce downtime, and control repair expenses
• Promote shop floor organization and plant housekeeping utilizing Lean Manufacturing principles and 5S methodologies
• Act as the first point of contact for operators regarding production concerns, equipment issues, or mechanical failures
• Direct maintenance personnel to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform preventative maintenance activities
• Conduct routine production floor observations to ensure adherence to work instructions, safety requirements, and quality standards
• Monitor staffing levels and adjust resources as necessary to meet production requirements
• Support inventory accuracy through proper material management and production reporting
• Assist with machine startups, changeovers, troubleshooting activities, and operational improvements
• Conduct tool crib and operational inventory reviews as necessary to ensure proper tools, parts, and materials are available
• Review production schedules and coordinate workforce activities to achieve customer requirements
Employee Leadership Responsibilities
• Directly supervise production employees assigned to the department or shift
• Train, coach, mentor, and develop employees to improve performance and operational effectiveness
• Conduct employee performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback
• Administer company policies consistently and fairly
• Partner with Human Resources regarding employee relations matters, investigations, corrective actions, attendance management, and performance improvement initiatives
• Support employee onboarding and training programs
• Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, communication, and employee engagement
• Identify employee development opportunities and support succession planning efforts
Administrative Responsibilities
• Prepare and review employee worked hours for payroll submission
• Maintain attendance records and communicate attendance concerns appropriately
• Complete required production reports and operational documentation accurately and timely
• Maintain production records, KPI tracking, labor utilization reports, and shift communication logs
• Assist with workforce scheduling and manpower planning
• Utilize company systems for production reporting, inventory transactions, inspections, and operational tracking
OTHER DUTIES
• Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition
• Attend all required meetings and training sessions
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and Lean Manufacturing initiatives
• Perform all other duties as required or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience and/or Training
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing Management, or related field preferred
• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification preferred
• Previous Labor Relations experience preferred
• Previous experience working in a Lean Manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement initiatives

• Ability to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
Verbal Communication Skills
• Effectively communicate information to operators, maintenance personnel, supervisors, management, customers, and vendors
• Ability to conduct shift meetings, coaching discussions, and performance conversations
Written Communication Skills
• Complete production, quality, attendance, inventory, and operational records accurately and legibly
• Prepare reports and documentation as required
Math Skills
• Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, and production calculations
• Ability to interpret production metrics and performance data
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
(Typically required on a regular basis to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.)
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. throughout the shift
• Ability to stand, kneel, stoop, bend, walk, and climb stairs throughout the shift
• Requires good hand, eye, and foot coordination
• Frequently walk production areas and interact with employees throughout the facility
• Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, loud environments, airborne particles, fumes, and outside weather conditions
• Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and make timely decisions
• Ability to effectively lead and direct employees in a manufacturing setting
• Vision: 20/20 corrected and normal hearing range
• Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment, including hot summer and cold winter conditions
