Job Description

The JSSA Heyman Interages Center intergenerational programs have brought children and older adults together for over 40 years. Since 1986, thousands of children from hundreds of schools and hundreds of isolated older adults from senior facilities have benefited from participation in our programs. Over the years dedicated and caring older adult volunteers, who are the heart of Interages, have made a significant difference in the lives of children in the Greater Washington DC area.

 

Position

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Interages Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating intergenerational volunteer programming in Montgomery County, Maryland.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists in the design and implementation of a variety of Interages programs. Programs may be virtual or in person; held in classrooms or senior living communities; and involve Interages senior volunteers, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students pursuing service-learning hours, or other students interested in intergenerational programming.
  • Communicates consistently with volunteers participating in the programs assigned to the coordinator.
  • Works with the Volunteer Coordinator and other Program Coordinators to identify senior volunteers who can support and participate in programs.
  • Communicates closely with the Program Manager to obtain and maintain supplies needed for ongoing programs and special events.
  • Works collaboratively with other Interages and JSSA staff, community organizations, agencies, including Montgomery County Public Library and Montgomery County Public Schools, and other partners to enhance participants' program experiences.
  • Contributes to the monthly Interages newsletter, as appropriate.
  • Carries out all duties and responsibilities in a manner that respects the rights and dignity of all Interages volunteers.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service trainings, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills, dependability, punctuality, creativity, flexibility, the ability to work effectively as a member of a team, patience, and sensitivity to the changing needs of individuals in the early stages of dementia.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines, while collaborating effectively with a diverse team of staff, volunteers, and clients.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint; ability to use a smartphone; and experience with Zoom.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain ongoing communication with volunteers.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Human Resources, Social Work, Education, or a related field, plus at least two years of experience in a human services setting.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrated interest in or commitment to working with older adults and aging-related issues.

An equivalent combination of education, skills, experience, and abilities that demonstrates the capacity to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

 

Starting pay: $22/hour
