Description
Will play a key role in developing, managing, and supporting SME’s technology and industry initiatives through the development of relevant strategic initiatives and by providing technical expertise to help facilitate various activities as needed. The role will focus on several key industries including additive, medical, education, research, Industry 4.0, composites, aerospace and defense, and automotive.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
- Engagement with volunteer technical groups in strategy creation, action planning and product development as assigned.
- Collaborates with SME strategic business units to share knowledge and capitalize on opportunities.
- Recruits and engages technical volunteers for various committees and project involvement, as needed.
- Monitors and shares (with staff members) technology trends in assigned areas.
- Develops and maintains relationships with industry members and high-level executives.
- Contributes content ideas to SME Media channels and audience.
- Supports leadership with the development, integration and implementation of industry-based strategy and business plan that supports SME’s strategic objectives.
- Participates in key industry events to build industry contacts, visibility for SME and to further our mission.
- Travels to on-site meetings to lead and support programming.
- Supports product planning/development teams in technical knowledge of industry-specific products and services.
- Engages industrial, academic and government volunteers in the development of specifications and markets for new products including features and special programs.
- Accompanies staff on industry-related events and customer visits.
- Evaluates and develops key partnerships, connections to organizations and end-user audiences, including associations, societies and co-sponsorships, as well as collaboration opportunities with industry.
- Plays primary role on technical program support as assigned including collaboration with SME+ colleagues on integrations including Cadmium and a2z.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILL, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in technology or business-related field required.
- At least five (5) or more years in manufacturing-related technical field.
- At least three (3) or more years’ experience in roles requiring strong facilitation skills.
- Excellent conceptualization and synthesis skills.
- Excellent planning, analytical, project management and communication skills.
- Experience developing strategic business plans.
- Ability to present ideas effectively to leadership, boards and committees.
- Understanding of technology and industry market trends and conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead volunteers and executives in a business environment.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Experience and/or thorough understanding of the product development process.
- Strong business planning and budgeting skills.

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $100,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. Offers typically fall within this range based on individual qualifications and budget availability. Certain positions may also be eligible for bonus/incentive compensation, subject to role and company policies.
