Job Description

The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of projects, ensuring accurate tracking of costs, budgets, and compliance with accounting standards.



 



Key Responsibilities




  • Purchase Order Management: Purchase order creation, formalizing the acquisition of goods or services needed for each project. Monitor and track POs to ensure approval and recorded properly, including invoice matching and reconciliation of costs to maintain accurate project financials.

  • Cost Analysis and Reporting: Evaluate and maintain billing rates for percentage of completion (POC) project billing, analyze inventory counts and balances for accounting adjustments, and prepare reports such as cost efficiency, labor analysis, budget/forecast pacing, and profit margin.

  • Project Tracking & Close Out: Review the financial performance of projects, including tracking customer billings and vendor costs, review and transfer of all projects for customer billing, and monitoring progress for budgets/forecasts. Additionally, job close audits prior to closing out each project for completeness and accuracy.

  • Data Management: Set up and maintain projects as well as customers in ERP system. Update cost databases and ensure proper documentation of transactions.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with Accounting, Project Managers, and other departments to ensure accurate and timely project tracking and reporting, examples including pre-billing and cost code allocations.

  • Process Improvement: Participate in cross-functional teams to enhance PO process, vendor invoice approvals, customer billing, and operational efficiency, such as subcontractor invoice approval process.

  • Compliance and Accounting Standards: Apply cost accounting principles, including standard costing and job costing to ensure adherence to company policies and accounting standards.
