Job Description


The Project Engineer supports the successful execution of roofing projects through detailed coordination, documentation management, and proactive communication. This role is integral to ensuring that project operations run efficiently by managing preconstruction deliverables, supporting procurement, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.


This is a full-time in-office role M-F 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with a one hour lunch. Candidates living farther than 40 miles or 1 1/2 hours from the office will not be considered for the position.

Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Purchase Orders: Create, maintain, and manage main project-specific purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, proper approval routing, and timely submission to vendors. (created in the first 30 days) Preconstruction is making the original Primary (Master) PO. The PM teams will need to tighten up the PO 3 months before the job starts, based on needs and lessons learned. (This needs to be a milestone in Slack) PM3 will manage the final shipping dates with PM2's help.
  • Shop Drawings: Communicate with the shop drawing team to schedule, review, correct, log, distribute, and track shop drawings. Ensure timely review and coordination with relevant stakeholders, PM, and submit for approval to the GC. Upload the approved submittals into Salesforce as required. 
  • Project Audits: Support internal project audits by providing up-to-date documentation, verifying cost entries & costing, and ensuring compliance with company standards. (cross-training) 
  • Requests for Information (RFIs): Draft, submit, and track RFIs. Coordinate responses between the design team, GC, and internal stakeholders during the preconstruction phase. (for submittals)  
  • Change Orders: Prepare and track change order requests and documentation. Ensure accurate pricing, backup, and timely submission during the preconstruction phase. (For Submittals)
  • Preconstruction Activities: 
    • Participate in early planning processes 
    • Scope reviews
    • Logistical planning (Set up the original delivery date with the Manufacturer before passing on to the PT), 
    • Submittals (Contact Jana, set original expectations)
    • Handoff Meetings (making sure the Project Team is aware of any changes or RFI that have come up in the submittal process)
    • Crush Meeting (Last meeting and making sure that all information has been based on the Project Team)
    • Preconstruction meetings (Related to Preconstruction and supporting Ideal Teams as needed) 
  • Attend pre-construction meetings with general contractors to represent the project team, understand expectations, and document key information. (submittal questions) 
  • Friday Morning Meeting Management: Organize and lead the weekly Friday morning coordination meeting. Prepare agendas, distribute notes, run, and follow up on action items.
  • Quality Control Tracking:
    • Review the QC reports and identify deficiencies, and send the project management team 
    • Assist with tracking QC observations
  • Attend a 1-on-1 with the Director of Preconstruction and Quality Control

Accountability & Performance Expectations:

  • Timeliness & Follow-Through: Purchase orders are issued within 4 weeks of project award, RFIs and submittals are drafted and submitted promptly with appropriate documentation and tracked until resolution, Change order documentation is submitted with full backup within the required window, avoiding delays to project billing or execution
  • Accuracy & Documentation: All project documentation (drawings, COIs, RFIs, submittals, change orders, qualifications, etc.) is maintained in an organized and up-to-date manner using the company’s standard filing systems during the pre-construction phase.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Actively participates in Friday coordination meetings with relevant updates, action items, and follow-ups. Maintains open and responsive, attends all required preconstruction meetings, and provides clear documentation of discussions and commitments—communication with superintendents, project managers, vendors, and general contractors.
  • Professionalism & Development: Represents the company professionally in all interactions with clients, trade partners, and internal staff. Actively works to improve knowledge of project management, construction sequencing, material knowledge, and specifications.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, and PDF editing tools.
  • Familiarity with construction documents, submittals, RFIs, and change order processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative team environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Comfortable with 10% regional travel (primarily Southeast).
  • Ability to walk on roofs, climb ladders, and work in varying outdoor conditions.
  • Proficient in construction software (Procore, Bluebeam, Monday, Salesforce, or similar preferred).
